Relationships and Assignments tab - Check Schedule dialog box
Use the Check Schedule dialog box, Relationships and Assignments tab to specify settings to use for analyzing logic, lags, relationships, and cost assignments to activities in the schedule.
Parameters section
Logic - Activities missing predecessors or successors: Mark to analyze the percentage of activities that have no predecessor or successor. Started activities and start milestones are not required by this analysis to have predecessors. Completed activities and WBS summary activities are not included in this analysis. Specify the target for the acceptable percentage of activities that can have no predecessor or successor.
Negative Lags - Relationships with a lag duration of less than 0: Mark to analyze the percentage of relationships with a lag duration less than zero. Relationships between completed activities are not included in this analysis. Specify the target for the acceptable percentage of relationships that can have negative lag.
Positive Lags - Relationships with a positive lag duration: Mark to analyze the percentage of relationships with positive lag applied. Relationships between completed activities are not included in this analysis. Specify the target for the acceptable percentage of relationships that can have lag.
Long Lags - Relationships with a lag duration greater than:Mark to analyze the percentage of relationships with a lag duration greater than the value you specify. You can specify the value in minutes, hours, days, weeks, months, or years but the duration will be converted to hours according to the Hours per Time Period settings. Relationships between completed activities are not included in this analysis. Specify the target for the acceptable percentage of relationships that can have a lag duration over the value you specify.
Relationship Types - The majority of relationships should be Finish to Start: Mark to analyze relationship types. Relationships between completed activities are not included in this analysis. Specify the target for the acceptable percentage of relationships that must have a relationship type of Finish to Start.
Out of Sequence - Activities which are completed or in-progress before predecessor: Mark to analyze the percentage of activities that are out of sequence in relation to their predecessors. Specify the target for the percentage of activities that is acceptable to have started or be in progress before their predecessor is completed.
Resource / Cost - Activities that do not have an expense or a resource assigned: Mark to analyze the percentage of activities that have not been assigned at least one resource, role, or expenses. These activities might contribute to the miscalculation of project costs. An activity will be considered to pass this test if at least one resource, role, or expense has been assigned, regardless of whether any costs have been assigned to the resources or expenses. Milestones, WBS Summary activities, and Level of Effort activities are not included in this analysis. Specify the target for the acceptable percentage of activities that can have no resources or expenses assigned.
Dangling Activities section
Dangling Start - Activities with start dates that are not driven by predecessors: Mark to identify activities with start dates that are not driven by the activity's predecessors, including activities with only finish-to-finish or start-to-finish relationships with their predecessors. If an activity's start date is not driven by its predecessors that activity can cause inaccuracies in the schedule and critical path calculation as well as affecting the calculations of milestones and completion dates. Specify the target for the percentage of activities for which it is acceptable that their start date is not driven by a predecessor activity.
Ignore in-progress activities for dangling start activities: Mark to disregard activities that are in progress when checking for activities with start dates not driven by their predecessors.
Dangling Finish - Activities with finish dates that do not drive successorts: Mark to identify activities with finish dates that do not drive the activity's successors. If an activity's finish date does not drive its successors that activity can cause inaccuracies in the schedule and critical path calculation as well as affecting the calculations of milestones and completion dates. Specify the target for the percentage of activities for which it is acceptable that their finish date does not drive successor activities.
Ignore activities with soft constraints: Mark to disregard activities with soft constraints when checking for activities with finish dates that do not drive successors. Soft constraints are Start On, Start On or After, Start On or Before, Finish On, Finish On or After, Finish On or Before, and As Late As Possible
Ignore activities with hard constraints: Mark to disregard activities with hard constraints when checking for activities with finish dates that do not drive successors. Hard constraints are: Mandatory Start and Mandatory Finish.
