The following behavior is expected in reports when XBRL taxonomies are not registered in the Report Server.
During import, the user is not notified that the report contains XBRL links to unregistered taxonomies. However, the report will import successfully and the Financial ReportingWeb log will document the unregistered taxonomies.
After the imported report is saved, the links to the unregistered taxonomies remain in the report definition. Any line item mappings associated with the unregistered taxonomies remain in the report definition.
Web preview of the report will be normal. If the report contains the XbrlLineItem function which points to any line items with unregistered taxonomies, the function will return an error.
When the report is opened in Reporting Studio, the designer receives an error message, which will show until the appropriate taxonomies are registered. The error message lists all the unregistered taxonomies within the report definition.
The report design continue to show all line item links to an unregistered taxonomy. You can override those links by remapping them to an existing taxonomy, if desired.
When the missing taxonomies are downloaded and registered, the report can be opened in Reporting Studio and the previously unregistered XBRL line items are enabled.
