The data is a half-word binary integer. The length of the field is the length of a half-word integer on your system. By default, it is treated as a
SIGNED quantity. If you want SQL*Loader to treat it as an unsigned quantity, then specify
UNSIGNED. To return to the default behavior, specify
SMALLINT can be loaded with correct results only between systems where a
SHORT INT has the same length in bytes. If the byte order is different between the systems, then use the appropriate technique to indicate the byte order of the data. See "Byte Ordering".
This is the
SHORT INT data type in the C programming language. One way to determine its length is to make a small control file with no data and look at the resulting log file. This length cannot be overridden in the control file.
