Creating a Demand Signal
Create a demand signal that communicates your forecasting needs for resource items in advance.
You can create a demand signal for different resources under various namespace. You can demand resources belonging to Compute, Network, GPU, or Storage. When you add a resource item, a new item is added to the list. When you create a demand signal for resources, you can input the demand details using the standardized User Interface or import details from an Excel sheet.
On the Demand Signal list page, select Create demand signal. If you need help finding the list page, see Listing Demand Signals.

Add basic details
Provide the following basic details for the demand signal:
-
Display name: Display name for the demand signal.
-
Description: Provide a short description about the demand request.
- Select one of the following options to fill up the demand details:
-
Fill the request manually: Select this option if you prefer to provide the demand details manually for the required resource items.
-
Upload the request excel: Select this option, if you prefer to import the demand details as a excel sheet. This option is applicable if you have a complex demand for many resource items and you have the details available in a excel sheet. Perform the following steps to import the demand as an Excel sheet:
- Download the Excel sheet.
- Fill the resource capacity demand details.
- Upload the file.
-
- Tag the demand signal.
- To create a demand signal, select Create.Note
When you upload an excel sheet with many demand signal items, the system facilitates bulk import of demand signal items under respective namespace. (optional)
If you prefer to manually create a demand request, you must provide the following details:
Adding a Compute resource
You can create a demand signal for compute resources such as bare metal compute or virtual machine (VM) instances. Provide the following details to add an resource from Compute namespace.
-
Region: Select a region. For example, us-ashburn-1.
-
Availability domain: Select an Availability domain. For example, us-ashburn-1-ad-1.
- Tenancy: Select a tenancy from which the request to create a demand signal was made. For example tenancy-1.
- Resource name: Select a compute resource. For example, BM.Standard3.64.
- OCPU: Specify the OCPU unit type. The default value is currently set as 64 based on the selected resource.
- Memory: Specify the memory unit type in Giga Bytes. The default value is currently set as 1024 GB and this based on the selected resource.
- NVMe (TB): Specify the Non-Volatile Memory Express value in Tera Bytes. The default value is prefilled as 34 and this based on the selected resource.
- Need by date: Use the date picker and select a date that you expect Oracle to deliver the requested resource.
- Quantity: Specify the quantity of resource items.
- Notes: Provide a brief description about the requested resource. (optional)
Adding a Network resource
You can create a demand signal for networking resources that are required for setting up cloud infrastructure. Provide the following details for adding network components such Router, VCNs and so forth. Provide the following details to add an resource from network namespace.
-
Region: Select a region. For example, us-ashburn-1.
- Resource name: Select a network resource. For example, BM.GPU.A100.8
- Type: Select the network type as 100 GB or 400 GB, a high-speed networking standard that sends data at 100 GB per second. The default value is set as 100 GB.
- Need by date: Use the date picker and select a date that you expect Oracle to deliver the requested resource.
- Quantity: Specify the quantity of resource items.
- Notes: Provide a brief description about the requested resource. (optional)
Adding a GPU resource
You can create a demand signal for GPU instances in the cloud. Provide the following details to add a resource from GPU namespace:
-
Region: Select a region. For example, us-ashburn-1.
-
Availability domain: Select an Availability domain. For example, us-ashburn-1-ad-1.
- Resource name: Select a GPU resource. For example, Fast Connect.
- Clustered: Specify if GPU is clustered or not.
- Need by date: Use the date picker and select a date that you expect Oracle to deliver the requested resource.
- Quantity: Specify the quantity of resource items.
- Notes: Provide a brief description about the requested resource. (optional)
For more information about web application firewall policies, see Overview of Web Application Firewall.
Adding a Storage resource
You can create a demand signal for resources related to storage services in the cloud. Provide the following details to request resource items for Storage namespace:
-
Region: Select a region. For example, us-ashburn-1.
- Resource name: Select a storage resource. For example, Block, Object, File.
- Need by date: Use the date picker and select a date that you expect Oracle to deliver the requested resource.
- Quantity: Specify the quantity of resource items.
- Notes: Provide a brief description about the requested resource. (optional)
Tagging
Tags: (Optional) Select Add tag to add one or more tags to the demand signal resource. If you have permissions to create a resource, then you also have permissions to apply free-form tags to that resource. To apply a defined tag, you must have permissions to use the tag namespace. For more information about tagging, see Resource Tags. If you're not sure whether to apply tags, skip this option or ask an administrator. You can apply tags later.
Note
Tags added to a resource aren't propagated to the OCI resources that are delivered or provisioned to complete the demand signal..
Reviewing and creating
Review the contents of the Create demand signal page and select Create.
