Operation Dependencies
Check the required parent and child resource states before changing an IoT domain or domain group.
Operations on an IoT domain group and its associated domains are interdependent. Before starting an operation in the following tables, wait for any operation on the related resources to finish and check their lifecycle states.
These requirements apply in addition to the permissions and prerequisites in each task. For example, finish a domain update before updating its domain group. To delete a domain group, first delete its associated domains and wait for those deletions to complete.
Domain Group Operations
| Operation | Required state of associated domains |
|---|---|
Update a domain group (UpdateIotDomainGroup) | Every associated domain must be ACTIVE or FAILED. |
Configure data access (ConfigureIotDomainGroupDataAccess) | Every associated domain must be ACTIVE or FAILED. |
Delete a domain group (DeleteIotDomainGroup) | All associated domains must be DELETED. Wait for each domain deletion to finish before deleting the group. |
Domain Operations
The parent IoT domain group must be ACTIVE for each of the following operations.
| Operation | API operation |
|---|---|
| Create a domain | CreateIotDomain |
| Update a domain | UpdateIotDomain |
| Delete a domain | DeleteIotDomain |
| Move a domain to another compartment | ChangeIotDomainCompartment |
| Configure domain data access | ConfigureIotDomainDataAccess |
| Change the data retention period | ChangeIotDomainDataRetentionPeriod |
Checking Related Resource States
Check the lifecycle state on the domain group details or domain details page. Use the domains list to identify the domains associated with the group.
If an operation is still running, inspect its work request and wait for completion before starting the dependent operation. A completed work request does not replace the lifecycle-state checks in the tables.
