Supported Versions

Learn about the different Search with OpenSearch release versions and what's included in each before you upgrade.

Search with OpenSearch supports several concurrent versions, for example. 1.2 and 2.3.

Every release has a build number. There are three types of releases:

  • Major: The first number indicates a major release. OpenSearch releases new major versions only when there's a critical mass of breaking changes, such as changes that are incompatible with existing APIs.

  • Minor: The second number indicates the minor version. Minor versions don't introduce breaking changes.

  • Patch: The third number indicates the patch. All CVE issues are addressed in monthly patching.

The available support for a version release depends on the support stage. The support stages are:

  • GA

  • Maintenance (12 months post release of newer version)

  • CVE only (12 months post release of newer version)
  • Deprecated (Post end of CVE support stage)

The following table describes the available support for each support stage.
