Before you discover Oracle Cloud Database Systems in Database Management, you must:
The Oracle Cloud Database System discovery process includes the
following main operations:
- Selecting a Management Agent installed on one of the nodes of the
Oracle Cloud Database to discover the associated components as part of one
Oracle Cloud Database System.
- Selecting the components that you want to register and adding
connections to monitor and manage them using Database Management.
- Reviewing the selected components and adding the Oracle Cloud
Database System components.
To discover an Oracle Cloud Database System in Database Management:
- Sign in to the Oracle Cloud Infrastructure console.
- At the top of the page, ensure that the region in which you want to discover
the Oracle Cloud Database System is selected.
Note
Cross-region monitoring and
management of Oracle Cloud Database Systems is not available.
- Open the navigation menu, click Observability &
Management. Under Database Management,
click Administration.
- On the left pane, select the compartment in which you want to discover the
Oracle Cloud Database System and select the Oracle Database cloud solution in
the Deployment type filter.
- Click Discover Cloud Database System.
- On the Select agent page of the Discover
Cloud Database System panel:
- Select the VM cluster from the list of VM clusters in the
compartment, to discover its components.
- Select the Management Agent installed on one of the nodes
of the Oracle Cloud Database to establish a connection and discover the
Oracle Cloud Database System.
It may take some time for
the selected Management Agent to discover the Oracle Cloud Database
System, and you can click View work request
to monitor the work request and view the associated log and error
messages. Once the operation is completed, the Oracle Cloud Database
System is discovered and its components are listed.
- Optionally, click Show advanced
options to add free-form or defined tags to the Oracle
Cloud Database System. If you have the permissions required to discover
an Oracle Cloud Database System, then you also have permissions to add
free-form tags. To add a defined tag, you must have permissions to use
the tag namespace.
Note
It's recommended that you set values for the Oracle-Standard tags
as these tags ensure consistency across your tenancy.
For information on:
- Click Next.
- On the Select components page of the Discover
Cloud Database System panel:
- In the Database system section,
review the Oracle Cloud Database System details.
Note
The
Full
management option is required to monitor Oracle
Cloud Database System components. If the databases only have the
Basic management option, you can click
Upgrade and switch to
Full
management. For information on the
Full
management option, see
About Management
Options.
- Review the list of components in the Oracle Cloud Database
System and add connections to the components that you would like to
monitor using Database Management. To establish
a connection, click Add connection in the
Connection column. For information, see Add Connections.
Note
As a prerequisite task, you must ensure that Diagnostics &
Management is enabled with the Full
management option for at least one of the databases
in the Oracle Cloud Database System.
If you do
not want to monitor a component using Database Management, then deselect the component.
- Optionally, click Show advanced
options to add free-form or defined tags to the Oracle
Cloud Database System.
- Click Next.
- On the Review and create page of the Discover
Cloud Database System panel, review the Oracle Cloud Database
System details, the tags added to the Oracle Cloud Database System, if any, and
the components that will be monitored by Database Management, and click Create.
A work request is submitted to add the Oracle Cloud Database
System with the selected components. Click View work
request to view the OCID of the work request and the
discovery resource, monitor the work request, and view the associated log
and error messages. You can also monitor the completion status of the work
request on the Review and create page, and as the
selected components are registered, the corresponding status is changed to
Done.
- Click Close to go back to the Managed
databases page.
A link with the name of the Oracle Cloud Database System is displayed
in the Database System column for the Oracle Cloud Database with
which it's associated. To view a list of all the External and Oracle Cloud Database
Systems being monitored by Database Management in the
compartment, click Database Systems on the left pane.
