You can edit and test a newly created Metric Extension against a Managed Database, if the Metric Extension is in draft status.

To edit and test a Metric Extension:

1. Go to the Administration Metric Extensions page and verify the status of the Metric Extension in the Status column.
2. Click the Actions icon () for the Metric Extension and click Edit to edit the Metric Extension and click Update to save the changes.
3. Click Test in the same Edit: <Name of Metric Extension [Database Resource Type]> panel to test the Metric Extension. Alternately, you can also click Test in the Actions menu on the Administration Metric Extensions page to test the Metric Extension against a Managed Database.
4. In the Test: <Name of Metric Extension [Database Resource Type]> panel, select a Managed Database in the Test section.

   When testing a Metric Extension, it's recommended that you:

   • Do not test on production environments.
   • Allocate a test resource instance with its own Management Agent dedicated to testing. A query or script that is being tested in the Metric Extension could perform poorly and impact other Management Agent functionality.
5. Click Test.

If testing is successful, verify that the metric values returned are correct. If testing fails, repeat the steps to create the Metric Extension.
