You can enable and deploy a published Metric Extension on a Managed Database.

When the Metric Extension is enabled, it's deployed to the Management Agent that is monitoring the Managed Database, and starts metric collection from the database.

To enable and deploy a Metric Extension:

1. Go to the Administration Metric Extensions page.
2. Click the Actions icon () for the Metric Extension and click Enable.
3. In the Enable: <Name of Metric Extension [Database Resource Type]> panel, review Metric Extension properties and click Select resources.
4. In the Select resources: <Database Resource Type> dialog box, select the Managed Databases for which you want to enable the Metric Extension and click Enable on selected resources.
5. Review the confirmation message and click Enable.

   The process of enabling a Metric Extension may take a few minutes as it involves deploying the Metric Extension to the agent and starting the metric collection from the selected Managed Databases. You can monitor the status of the Enable task in the Enable status column in the Enable: <Name of Metric Extension [Database Resource Type]> panel.

   When deploying the Metric Extension to the Management Agent for the first time (as part of enabling the Metric Extension), the deployment can take up to two minutes, this may result in the agent restarting, and hence you may see agent not reporting status for all the resources monitored by that agent for the duration of two minutes.
6. Click Close to close the Enable: <Name of Metric Extension [Database Resource Type]> panel after Success is displayed in the Enable status column.

After the Metric Extension is enabled for a Managed Database, you can monitor the metric data from the Metric Extension in Metrics Explorer in the Oracle Cloud Infrastructure Monitoring service. Metric data from the Metric Extension is stored in the same compartment as the Managed Database on which it's enabled under the oracle_metric_extensions_appmgmt namespace.

You can view the Metric Extensions associated with a particular Managed Database on the corresponding Managed database details page in Database Management. To do so:

1. Go to the Administration Metric Extensions page.
2. Click the number displayed in the Enabled on resources column for the Metric Extension.
3. In the Enable: <Name of Metric Extension [Database Resource Type]> panel, click the name of the Managed Database in the Enabled on resources section.

   The Managed database details page is displayed.

4. On the left pane under Resources, click Associated Metric Extensions.
