Monitor and Manage Scheduler Jobs

You can monitor and manage database scheduler jobs for a Managed Database.

Oracle Scheduler is an enterprise job scheduler included with Oracle Database that enables you to schedule and run tasks at specified times or when specified events occur. A scheduler job defines a task to be performed and its schedule. In Database Management, you can view the health and status of scheduler jobs, monitor job runs, and create scheduler jobs. Note

  • Scheduler jobs is currently available in preview mode for early exploration. For more information about feature availability and access, contact Oracle Support.
  • Scheduler jobs is currently available only for External Databases and Oracle Cloud Databases version 18c and later.

To view scheduler jobs, go to the Managed database details page, expand Management in the left pane, and click Scheduler jobs. The Scheduler jobs section includes:

  • Scheduled job inventory: Displays a summary of scheduler jobs by health, such as Healthy, Warning, and Critical.
  • Scheduled summary: Displays summary information about scheduler jobs, such as the number of unique owners, top owner, top owner job count, number of job types, and most common job type.
  • Job runs by status: Displays a summary of job runs by status for the selected time period.
  • Jobs: Lists the scheduler jobs in the Managed Database and displays information such as health, job name, owner, job class, enabled status, state, schedule, next run date, and number of failures. You can use the available filters to filter the jobs displayed in the table. Selecting a row in the Jobs table filters the Runs table to show all runs for that job within the selected time period. Click the Actions icon (Actions) for a scheduler job to perform tasks such as editing or disabling the job. The available options depend on the current state of the scheduler job.
  • Runs: Lists scheduler job runs for the selected time period and displays information such as status, job name, owner, actual start date, duration, error number, and additional information. You can use the available filters to filter the job runs displayed in the table.

Privileges Required to Work with Scheduler Jobs

You must have the following privileges to work with scheduler jobs:

  • For read operations, such as viewing scheduler jobs and job run details:
    • READ ON SYS.ALL_SCHEDULER_JOBS
    • READ ON SYS.ALL_SCHEDULER_JOB_RUN_DETAILS
    • READ ON SYS.ALL_SCHEDULER_JOB_CLASSES
  • For write operations, such as creating and managing scheduler jobs:
    • CREATE JOB
    • EXECUTE ON SYS.DBMS_SCHEDULER
    • ALTER ON <OWNER>.<JOB_NAME> to alter an existing job in another schema
    • CREATE ANY JOB to create jobs in another schema

Create a Scheduler Job

You can create a scheduler job to run a PL/SQL block, stored procedure, or existing program at a specified time or frequency.

To create a scheduler job:

  1. In the Scheduler jobs section on the Managed database details page, click Create Scheduler Job.
  2. In the Create Scheduler Job panel:
    1. In the Job type step, select PL/SQL block, Stored procedure, or Existing program, and then click Next.
    2. In the Job definition step, enter the details for the selected job type, and then click Next. The fields displayed depend on the job type selected:
      • For a PL/SQL block job, specify the job name, owner, and PL/SQL block. Optionally, enable the job and add comments.
      • For a Stored procedure job, specify the job name, owner, and procedure name. Enter a qualified procedure name, for example, OWNER.PROCEDURE or OWNER.PACKAGE.PROCEDURE. Optionally, select whether to enable the job and add comments.
      • For an Existing program job, specify the job name, owner, and program name. Optionally, select whether to enable the job and add comments.
    3. In the Schedule and options step, specify the following details, and then click Next:
      • Schedule type: Select when the job runs, for example, immediately or according to a schedule.
      • Job class: Select the Scheduler job class.
      • Logging level: Select the level of run information to log.
      • Use a specific named credential: Optionally, select this option if the job must run with a named credential. Then select the Credential scope and the Resource-specific named credential.
    4. In the Review step, review the scheduler job information, and then click Create.
The newly created scheduler job is displayed in the Jobs table in the Scheduler jobs section.
