Public connectivity for Kafka clusters
- Services: Kafka
- Release Date: June 15, 2026
By default, all Kafka clusters are created with private connectivity and can be accessed only from within the VCN and subnet specified during cluster creation. You now have the option to make active Kafka clusters accessible over the public internet by configuring and installing a public connectivity add-on.
Add-ons enhance the base capabilities of OCI Streaming with Apache Kafka to extend support for specific networking, security, or operational needs. The public connectivity add-on allows customers to connect to Kafka clusters from external networks (on-premises or other cloud environments) through authenticated and controlled connections, thus simplifying migrations, integration, and hybrid workloads.
Customers can install, update, and uninstall the public connectivity add-on directly from the Kafka cluster details page in the Oracle Cloud Console. For more information, see Using Add-ons with Kafka Clusters.
