Administrator First Steps
The desktop administrator manages desktop pools and storage volumes. However, the tenancy administrator must first set up user access and desktop images.
Prerequisites
- Create a compartment in your tenancy for the desktops.
- Create a VCN and subnet for connections to the service.
- Define IAM policies for the service.
- Define users and groups.
- If required, create a custom desktop image for the desktop instances.

What can an administrator configure?
Features of a desktop that a desktop administrator can configure include:
- Desktop operating system
- Shape (power) of the desktop
- Availability of the desktop
- Desktop administrative privileges of the user
- Access to desktop features (clipboard, speakers, microphones, drives on the client device)
- Storage size and type
