Create Subinventories Using Public API

Leverage a new public Application Programming Interface (API) in Oracle Inventory Management to programmatically create subinventories with greater efficiency and flexibility. This enhancement in Release 12.2.11 allows you to automate the setup of subinventory structures, a task that previously required manual configuration through the user interface. Before this release, defining subinventories involved navigating windows and entering data manually, which could be time-consuming and prone to errors in large-scale implementations or integrations with external systems.

This feature delivers significant business value by streamlining inventory setup processes and enabling seamless integration with third-party systems or custom applications. It addresses the broader need for automation in inventory management, particularly in industries with complex warehouse structures or high transaction volumes. Use cases include automating subinventory creation during warehouse expansions, integrating with external warehouse management systems, or supporting rapid deployment in multi-organization environments. Implementation considerations include ensuring proper API documentation is referenced and that security protocols are followed for programmatic access.

Steps to enable and configure

You don't need to do anything to enable this feature.

Tips and considerations

- Leverage this API to automate repetitive subinventory creation tasks, especially during large-scale warehouse setup or reorganization projects.

- Ensure that proper validation checks are embedded in custom code to prevent incorrect subinventory configurations that could impact inventory tracking.

- Consider implementing security measures to restrict API access to authorized personnel only, safeguarding against unauthorized structural changes in inventory management.
