Restrict and Prioritize Subinventories and Locators in Putaway Rules
Enhance your warehouse operations by restricting and prioritizing subinventories and locators with the Dropping Order attribute in putaway rules. In this release, the Rules Engine now supports the Dropping Order attribute in both the Restrictions and Sort Criteria tabs. This capability allows you to define specific storage locations for incoming materials based on predefined criteria, ensuring optimal placement and efficient retrieval processes.

New Dropping Order Parameter in Restrictions tab of WMS Rules Window
Prior to this release, putaway rules offered basic restrictions and sorting options but lacked the granularity of using a dropping order to refine locator selection. This enhancement provides a significant business benefit by enabling more precise control over material storage, reducing retrieval times, and improving overall warehouse efficiency. It addresses the broader industry need for streamlined inventory management in distribution centers where space optimization and quick access to materials are critical. Use cases include prioritizing high-turnover items in easily accessible locations or restricting certain products to specific subinventories for compliance or safety reasons. Implementation considerations involve assessing current putaway strategies and aligning rule configurations with operational priorities to maximize the impact of this feature.
Steps to enable and configure
You don't need to do anything to enable this feature.
Tips and considerations
- Evaluate existing putaway rules to identify opportunities where Dropping Order can improve efficiency, such as for high-velocity items or specialized storage needs.
- Test configurations in a non-production environment to ensure they align with warehouse workflows before full deployment.
