Entering Cell Text in Data Forms

You can enter a text description for cells in a data form. For example, you might add a description for a cell’s currency information, such as Entity Currency.

You can enter any characters for cell text values and you can use spaces. However, you cannot include the pipe (|) or tilde (~) character if you used it as a delimiter for the cell text value in the load format.

You can set a size limit for cell text in an application, using the MaxCellTextSize Application Settings metadata attribute. The default setting is a maximum of 8,000 bytes.

At times, you may need multiple cell text entries to store different types of information for a Point of View intersection. You can create multiple cell text entries and define cell text labels to easily identify types of information when you view cell text. Before you can enter multiple cell text entries, the administrator must define cell text labels. See the Oracle Hyperion Financial Management Administrator's Guide.

For every application, there is a system-generated member for Cell Text Label named [Default]. If you want to enter only one cell text entry for a data cell, you can select the [Default] member to enter the cell text information. A cell can have either one entry using the [Default] cell text label, multiple cell text label entries, or a combination of cell text labels and [Default] entries.

After you add cell text, a blue triangle is displayed to indicate that there is text associated with the cell.

Note:

You cannot enter text for a cell that is calculated by the form.

To enter cell text in data forms:

  1. From the Document Manager, open a data form.
  2. Select the cell for which to add text.
  3. Take one of these actions:
    • Select a cell, right-click, and select Cell Text.

    • Select a cell, and in the form toolbar, click Cell Text.

    • If the administrator has set up the form with a cell text column, enter the cell text in the column.

  4. Right-click and select Cell Text.

The Cell Text dialog box includes the POV information and a grid for cell text. If no text exists for the cell, the system displays a blank grid.

  5. Click Add Row.

The system adds a row with the [Default] system member as the cell text label.

  6. Either accept the [Default] label or select one of the other previously loaded labels from the drop-down list.

You cannot use the same label twice in the same grid.

    Tip:

The cell text labels in the drop-down list are displayed in alphabetical order. To quickly find a cell text label from a long list, enter one or more letters of the label. For example, if you enter R, the system quickly advances to the first cell text label starting with R (for example, Rating).

  7. On the row next to the [Default] system member label in the Cell Text column, enter the cell text.

    Tip:

You can resize the entire Cell Text dialog box by dragging any side, and you can also resize the Cell Text column by dragging the right bottom corner. Click the Edit button to edit cell text in a separate, larger popup window, which you can resize by dragging any side.

  8. Optional: To add cell text rows, click Add Row, select a Cell Text Label, and enter text.
  9. When you finish entering cell text, click OK.
