Using JAWS Screen Reading Software

If you are using JAWS® Screen Reading Software, Oracle recommends using the Microsoft Edge browser.

Set JAWS preferences to react to UI updates. MAGic does not require configuration settings for Oracle Hyperion Calculation Manager.

Enabling Virtual PC Cursor

The virtual PC cursor is similar to the PC Cursor, and is used for navigating HTML documents. Enable the Virtual PC Cursor mode to allow JAWS to read HTML documents and the content of some editable text fields (for example, within Oracle Hyperion Shared Services Console). The following procedures provide two methods for enabling the JAWS Virtual PC Cursor mode.

To enable the Virtual PC Cursor in JAWS Configuration Manager:

  1. From the JAWS Utilities menu, select Configuration Manager.
  2. From the Set Options menu, select Advanced Options.
  3. Select Use Virtual PC Cursor.
  4. Click OK.

Disabling Virtual PC Cursor

Some Shared Services Console components will not work while in Virtual PC Cursor mode (for example, users will not be able to traverse the provisioning tree). To work with DHTML components, you must disable the Virtual PC Cursor mode. Therefore, Oracle recommends using the keyboard equivalents method to toggle between enabling and disabling the Virtual PC Cursor mode.

To disable virtual PC Cursor:

  1. From the JAWS Utilities menu, select Configuration Manager.
  2. From the Set Options menu, select Advanced Options.
  3. Deselect Use Virtual PC Cursor.
  4. Click OK.

Toggling Between the Cursors Used by JAWS

To toggle between JAWS Virtual PC Cursor modes (enabling or disabling), press the plus (+) key on the numeric key pad.

Disabling Control Group Name Preference

Disabling the Control Group Name preference prevents redundant reading of controls caused by the way the user interface is laid out.

To disable the Control Group Name preference:

  1. Select Utilities, and then Settings Center.
  2. From the tree, select Speech Verbosity.
  3. Under Configure Verbosity Levels, select Beginner (or whichever verbosity level is selected), and then Control Group Name.
