500 Error Message

Scenario:

You may receive a 500 ERROR message on a form when the number of members on the page (the cross-product combination of dimensions after security filters are applied) causes Java to run out of memory.

Solution:

Oracle recommends reducing the number of cross-product dimension combinations on the page as much as possible. By default, Java is allocated 128MB of memory, but if your server has more memory available, you should increase the amount that Java can use. As a general rule, if the server is dedicated to Oracle Hyperion Planning, allocate 75% of the server’s RAM to Java; if the server is not dedicated, allocate 25% to 50% of the RAM to Java. The minimum memory setting should be 128MB.

For instructions, see the "Increasing the JVM Memory Allocation" section of the Oracle Enterprise Performance Management System Installation and Configuration Guide.
