Encryption of Sensitive Data in Soft Coding and Other Tables (Release 9.2.26.6)

Starting with EnterpriseOne Tools Release 9.2.26.6, EnterpriseOne uses the EnterpriseOne site key to encrypt sensitive values in selected soft coding and other database tables. The site key provides customer-specific encryption for these sensitive values.

The following tables and applications are affected:

Table

Application

F952333

P0092 and P0092L

F953001

P953000

F954002 P954000 and P98486W

EnterpriseOne Tools Release 9.2.26.6 and later can decrypt values that were encrypted either by using the EnterpriseOne site key or by using the previous encryption mechanism. Therefore, you do not need to update existing records solely because you upgraded to EnterpriseOne Tools Release 9.2.26.6 or later.

When you open and save an affected existing record using EnterpriseOne Tools Release 9.2.26.6 or later, EnterpriseOne encrypts the sensitive value by using the EnterpriseOne site key.

Important: If EnterpriseOne systems running different Tools releases access the same affected tables, use caution when updating these records. After you save a sensitive value using EnterpriseOne Tools Release 9.2.26.6 or later, a system running an earlier Tools release will not be able to decrypt the updated value.

If an earlier Tools release must continue to access the same records, do not update those records from the later release until all systems that require access can use the new encryption.

If both Tools releases must update these records, you can configure the environments to use different physical tables so that each Tools release updates its own copy of the affected data.

Encrypted Value Length Considerations

Encryption that uses the site key produces larger encrypted values than the previous encryption mechanism. The database columns that store these encrypted values have not increased in size. Therefore, the maximum amount of unencrypted data that you can store in the affected fields is reduced.

The following limits apply:

  • For F953001 and F954002, columns with a size of 1024 support approximately 184 characters of unencrypted data.
  • For F952333, columns with a size of 512 support approximately 85 characters of unencrypted data.

If an existing unencrypted value exceeds these limits, the corresponding database column cannot store the value after it is encrypted by using the site key.
