Working with Manage Special Instructions (P964720W)(Release 9.2.8)

This section discusses how to:
  • Download an ESU with special instructions from the Oracle JD Edwards Update Center.
  • Import the ESU using the web client.
  • Apply UDCs and DD Glossaries changes to the staging environment.
  • Deploy the ESU with special instructions edits to the target environment.

Downloading the ESU with Special Instructions from the Update Center

To download the Electronic Software Update file (ESU) from the Update Center:

  1. Access the Oracle JD Edwards Update Center.
  2. In the Search section, enter the ESU name in the Search for Name field and click Search OR set these criteria and click Search:
    1. In the Type field, select Electronic Software Updates.
    2. In the Release field, select 9.2.
    3. In the Platform field, select Multi-platform.
  3. Review the search results. Select and download the ESU with special instructions to your Download Basket.
    Note: The description of the multi-platform ESUs is suffixed with web. For example, ESU_JN19899_7/19/22_web. Only these ESUs can be deployed using the web client.
  4. Click Items link in the Download Basket section and click the download icon corresponding to the ESU you downloaded.

Importing the ESU to EnterpriseOne Using the Web Client

To import the ESU using the web client:

  1. Sign in to EnterpriseOne on the web client.

  2. From the Software Updates menu (GH9612), select the Work With Software Updates application (P96470W).

  3. Select the Form exit and click Import.
  4. Click Choose File and access the downloaded file. Only one ESU can be imported at a time.
  5. Click Load. The file is uploaded to the system. The Work With Software Updates (P96470W) application refreshes with the new ESU in the grid and the deployment process is initiated.
  6. The system then populates the Software Update Status window on the screen which displays a visual of the deployment status highlighting the current deployment step and the percentage of update remaining.
    Note: If the Software Update Status window does not appear, select Software Update Status History from the Layout drop-down menu.

    When the deployment process is 38% complete, the ESU is loaded and is ready for deployment.

Applying UDC and DD Glossary Changes to the Staging Environment

To apply UDC and DD Glossary changes to the staging environment:

  1. From the Software Updates menu (GH9612), select Work with Software Update application (P96470W). The Work with Software Updates form is displayed.
  2. Click Find.
  3. In the records grid, click the Special Instructions icon in the row corresponding to the ESU that you imported.

    The Manage Special Instructions form is displayed with the record of the selected ESU. The manual special instructions, User Defined Codes, and Glossaries from the selected ESU package are displayed in the corresponding tabs, in the lower pane of the Manage Special Instructions form.

  4. To make edits for UDCs in the staging environment (JDEP920):
    1. Click the User Defined Codes tab. The available UDCs are listed by product code in the grid with their status set to Not Applied.
    2. Review and set the Status of each of the required UDCs to Applied. These changes will be applied automatically during the deployment process.
      Note: To skip applying a UDC, set the status of the UDC to Skipped.
  5. To make staged edits for glossaries in the staging environment (JDEP920):
    1. Click the Glossaries tab. The available glossaries are listed by product code in the grid with their status set to Not Applied.
    2. Review and set the Status of the required glossaries to Applied. These changes will automatically be applied during the deployment process.
  6. Click OK.

Deploying the ESU with Special Instructions Edits to the Target Environment

After making edits to the UDCs and DD Glossary items in the staging environment, deploy the ESU to apply the changes to the target environment.
  1. In the Work With Software Updates form (P96470W), select the ESU and click Row Exit, Deploy.
  2. In the Software Update Environment Selection form, select the target environment, example PS920.
  3. If you have made staging edits detailed in the Applying UDC and DD Glossary Changes to the Environment section above and only want those changes to be deployed, deselect the Automate Special Instructions option.
    Note: To apply all the special instructions provided by JD Edwards, select the Automate Special Instructions option.
  4. Click OK. The system initiates the deployment process. The Software Updates Status pane on the Work with Software Updates form shows the percentage of progress. On completion of deployment, the 100% completion status is displayed.
  5. After the deployment is completed, click the Special Instruction icon corresponding to the staging environment JDEP920, in the records grid.
  6. The Manage Special Instruction form displays the ESU with the target environment JDEP920 in the Records grid. The Status of the target environment is set to Applied.
  7. Select the target environment (example PS920) in the grid and review the UDC and DD Glossary changes in the lower pane of the form.
    1. To review the applied UDCs, click the User Defined Codes tab.
    2. Select Display All Statuses option to view all the UDCs. The status of the applied UDCs is replaced with a check mark in the grid.
    3. To review the applied DD glossaries, click the Glossaries tab.
    4. Select Display All Statuses option to view all the glossaries. The status of the applied glossaries is replaced with a check mark in the grid.
  8. To apply special instruction changes after deployment to all the deployed target environments:
    1. Select the staging environment from the Manage Special Instructions form.
    2. In the User Defined Codes tab, edit the status of the UDCs as required.
    3. Click Apply to all target environments (Save icon) in the User Defined Codes tab.
    4. In the Glossaries tab, edit the status of the DD glossary items as required.
    5. Click Apply to all target environments (Save icon) in the Glossaries tab.
    Note: When the Apply to all target environments option is selected, the system evaluates the status at these levels:
    • The status set for the UDC and DD Glossary items in the staging environment.
    • The status of the target environment.
    • The status set for the UDC and Glossary items in the target environment.

      The skip status set in any of these evaluation levels takes precedence during processing.

  9. To apply special instructions edits to a deployed target environment:
    1. Select the target environment (example PS920) in the Manage Special Instructions records grid.
    2. Click the Status of the selected target environment to unlock the editing status from Applied to Not Applied.
    3. In the User Defined Codes tab, click the Status of the UDCs to make changes as required.
    4. Click Apply (Save icon) in the User Defined Codes tab to apply the UDC changes to the selected target environment (PS920).
    5. In the Glossaries tab, click the Status of the glossary items to make changes as required.
    6. Click Apply (Save icon) in the Glossaries tab to apply the DD Glossaries changes to the selected target environment (PS920).
