Understanding the W-9 Exception Report

The IRS defines the form W-9 Request for Taxpayer Identification Number and Certification. You must request taxpayer identification number (TIN) of a U.S. person (including a resident alien), and also request certain certifications and claims for exemption. Use the W-9 Request for Taxpayer Identification Number and Certification form to enter or update the pertinent data into the respective Supplier record setup. The JD Edwards EnterpriseOne has created a UBE report, W-9 Exception Report, to help you verify if there is either missing tax information or incorrect set-up.

To meet IRS requirements, you must have a TIN for each supplier. You can use the W-9 Exception report (R01301) to identify suppliers without a TIN.

Run the W-9 Exception report early in your preparations for 1099 processing to give you time to contact suppliers to obtain a valid TIN. After you run the report and make any necessary corrections, continue to run it until you are satisfied with the results and no supplier records appear on the report.
