I-9 Status Codes (07/HN)

You use I-9 status codes to indicate the method used to verify that an employee is eligible to work in the United States. Examples are:

• Y: I-9 form on file

• P: Passport used for verification

• R: Resident alien or alien registration card

• S: Social Security card

• L: Driver's license and Social Security card

• V: Visa (worker's permit)

• B: Birth certificate

• N: Waiting for verification
