Before You Begin
This
20-minute OBE shows you how to review and apply text updates
for User Defined Codes (UDCs) and Data Dictionary Glossaries,
using the web client.
The
Manage Special Instructions application (P964720W) enables you
compare the existing UDC value and Data Dictionary Glossary
text existing in your system with the proposed changes that
are included in the software update.
In this OBE, you will:
- Download an ESU with special instructions from the Oracle JD Edwards Update Center.
- Import the ESU using the web client.
- Apply UDCs and DD Glossaries changes to the staging environment.
- Deploy the ESU with special instructions edits to the target environment, all deployed target environments, and to a specific deployed target environment.
Background
Starting with Tools Release 9.2.8, you can use the Manage Special Instructions application (P964720W) on the web client to do a side-by-side comparison of the new and old text values, review, and choose whether to accept the changes.
Note: When you upload an ESU containing special instructions changes through web deployment into the update repository, the system automatically imports Manual Special Instructions (MSI) XML from the package into the staging area.
Downloading
an
ESU with Special Instructions from the Update Center
To download an Electronic Software Update file (ESU) from the Update Center:
- Access the Oracle JD Edwards Update Center.
- In the Search section, enter the ESU name in the Search
for Name field and click Search.

Set these criteria:- In the Type field, select Electronic Software Updates.
- In the Release field, select 9.2.
- In the Platform field, select Multi-platform.
- Click Search.

- Click the download icon to download the ESU with special
instructions to your Download Basket.

Importing
the ESU to EnterpriseOne Using the Web Client
To import the ESU using the web client:
- Sign in to EnterpriseOne on the web client.
- From the Software Updates menu (GH9612), select the Work
with Software Update application (P96470W) OR click
Software Updates on the Update Manager
process page.

Work With Software Updates Form - Import ESU Option - Click Choose File and access the
downloaded file. Only one ESU can be imported at a time.

system. The Work with Software Update
(P96470W) form refreshes with the new ESU in the grid and the
deployment process is initiated.

window on the screen which displays a visual of the deployment
status highlighting the current deployment step and the
percentage of update remaining. When the deployment process is
38% complete, the ESU is loaded and is ready for deployment.

- When the deployment process in 38% complete, click Find.

corresponding ESU. Click the Special Instructions icon to
access the Manage Special Instructions form.

Applying
UDC and DD Glossary Changes to the Staging Environment
To apply UDC and DD Glossary changes to the staging environment:
- From the Software Updates menu (GH9612), select Work with Software Update application (P96470W). The Work with Software Updates form is displayed.
- Click Find.

icon in the row corresponding to the ESU that you imported.

staging environment is created with the record of the ESU. The Manual Instructions, User Defined Codes, and Glossaries from the selected ESU package are displayed in the corresponding tabs, in the lower pane of the Manage Special Instructions form.Manage Special Instructions Form - Staging Environment Record - To make staged edits for UDCs in the staging
environment (

): - Click
the User Defined Codes tab.
The available UDCs are listed by product code in the grid
with their status set to Not Applied
.

and set the Status of each of the required UDCs to Applied
. These changes will be applied automatically during the deployment process.
Note: To skip applying a UDC, set the status of the UDC to Skipped.

staging environment (

): - Click
the Glossaries tab. The available
glossaries are listed by product code in the grid with their
status set to Not Applied
.

and set the Status of each of the required glossaries to Applied
. These changes will be applied automatically during the deployment process.

- Click Close to return to the Work With Software Updates form.
Deploying
the ESU with Special Instructions Edits to the Target
Environment
After making edits to the UDCs and DD Glossary items, deploy the ESU to apply the changes.
- In the Work With Software Updates form
(P96470W), select the ESU and click Row Exit,
Deploy.

section above and only want those changes to be deployed,
deselect the Automate Special Instructions
option.
Note: To apply all the special instructions from JD Edwards, select the Automate Special Instructions option. Software Update Environment Selection Form -Automate Special Instructions Option - Click OK. The system initiates the
deployment process. The Software Updates Status
pane on the Work With Software Updates form
shows the percentage of progress. On completion of deployment,
the 100% completion status is displayed.

The skip status set in any of these evaluation levels takes precedence during processing.
- To apply special instructions edits to a deployed target environment:
- Select
the target environment (example
