Consider that Installers Are Not Backwards Compatible

As noted above, the version of Oracle Universal Installer (OUI) changed from 11.2.0.2.0 to12.2.0.2.2 in Tools Release 9.2.2.0 installers. OUI 12.2.0.2.2 is not backwards compatible with 11.2.0.2.0; hence, Tools Release 9.2.2.0 and higher Development Client, WLSH4A, and WASH4A installers are not compatible with prior installers. Examples of a few configurations that are NOT allowed include these:

  • A package being installed with Tools Release 9.2.2.0 or higher cannot be installed on an existing Development Client installation that used a pre-9.2.2.0 installer.
  • A Tools Release 9.2.2.0 or higher WLSH4A or WASH4A installer cannot be installed on an existing Development Client installation that used a pre-9.2.2.0 installer.
  • The Tools Release 9.2.2.0 or higher Development Client, WLSH4A, and WASH4A installers cannot be of different Tools Releases.
  • The Tools Release 9.2.2.0 or higher installers’ directories cannot contain any files from previous Tools Releases.

Important: Avoid the above scenarios on the Development Client by saving using Snapshot or uninstalling the existing Development Client before attempting to install a full package using the new installers.
