Column Definition Names, Descriptions, and Titles

When you set up a column definition, you enter a column definition name, a description, and a title. In the Column Definition Description and Column Definition Title fields, you cannot use a single quotation mark (') in the field.

For the Column Definition Name field, you cannot use spaces, and cannot use any of the following characters:

  • Tilde (~)

  • Single quotation mark (')

  • Double quotation marks (")

  • Grave accent (')

  • Exclamation point (!)

  • At (@)

  • Number sign (#)

  • Dollar sign ($)

  • Percent sign (%)

  • Circumflex (^)

  • Ampersand (&)

  • Asterisk (*)

  • Left parentheses (()

  • Right parentheses ())

  • Hyphen (-)

  • Plus sign (+)

  • Equal sign (=)

  • Left bracket ([)

  • Right bracket (])

  • Left brace ({)

Note: You can use the period punctuation mark (.) and underscores (_) in the name, description, and title fields. Spaces between characters are allowed for descriptions and titles, but not for names.

If you enter a column definition name, description, or title with a non-supported special character or space, the Revise Column Definitions form issues an error message. You must modify the characters before you can continue.
