Examples of Column Definitions

Suppose that you want to generate a financial statement to compare year-to-date revenues for this year against year-to-date revenues for last year for the AA ledger. You could set up column definitions with balance types that will retrieve the records for the time period, and can specify the AA ledger in the column definition.

The following table lists the values that you would specify in the column definition to achieve the desired results:

In this example, you want to compare revenues, so you would also set up a row definition that includes your revenue accounts. When you generate the financial statement, the system writes the current year-to-date balances for revenues at the intersection of the row definition and the column definition for the current year, and with the previous year's year-to-date balances for revenues at the intersection of the row definition and the column definition for the previous year.
