Understanding Export and Import Functionality

The One View Financial Statements (OVFS) feature provides an import and export function that enables you to export components from an environment to a .zip file (zip file), and then import the components of the zip file to a new location. You can use the import and export function to transfer OVFS components from one location to another or to create back-up files.

When you export components, the system creates a zip file that includes the components. When you import the files to a new location, the import process writes the records for the component type (row definition, column definition, and so on) to the appropriate tables in the new environment. The zip file also includes a readme.txt file that lists the contents of the zip file so that you can review the contents prior to importing the components.

You can use the import and export functionality for these OVFS components:

  • Row definitions

  • Column definitions

  • Statement definitions

When you export statement definition records, the system also includes in the zip file the related records, such as the row and column definitions associated with the statement definition. If the statement definition has associated statement versions or layouts, those components are also included in the export file.

If your financial statement components have associated data selection, the system includes the data selection in the export file.

Note: Oracle recommends that you run the Statement Validation program (R09330) before you export statement definitions that you will import into another environment. The Statement Validation program generates a report that helps you identify statement definitions that do not pass required validations so that you can fix the errors before importing the statement definitions into a new environment. See Generating the Statement Validation Report (Release 9.2 Update).
