Understanding the Reversal of a Confirmed Shipment
Use the Reverse Shipment Confirmation program (P4205R) to restore inventory and sales order status when a shipment is confirmed in error. The reversal process ensures data integrity, updates the order status, and maintains inventory commitments in accordance with the processing options configured in the system. You can reverse only eligible sales order stock lines that have not been invoiced.
To reverse an order line, you must run the same version of the Ship Confirmation program (P4205) that you used during the original shipping transaction.
When you run the reversal process for a sales order with quantities in a primary location, the reversal transaction returns the quantity to the Soft Committed bucket and updates the on-hand balance in the Item Location File table (F41021). For quantities in a secondary location, the reversal transaction returns the quantity to the Hard Committed bucket and updates the on-hand balance accordingly in F41021. The system does not update commitment buckets unless the inventory was originally released. When you reverse a confirmed shipment, the system blanks out the Ship Date on the reversed line, and updates the order line status to the reversal status based on how you configure it in the processing options. If you attempt to reverse an order line for a lot that is on hold, the system displays an error message and restricts the reversal. You must resolve the lot hold before attempting the reversal again.
