Setting Up Optional Terms for NSC Reporting
Use the Define NSC Optional Terms page to define terms where enrollment is considered optional for the purpose of reporting program level enrollment status to the National Student Clearinghouse (NSC).

The Define NSC Optional Terms page provides three separate ways to identify optional NSC terms.

Selected by default. When selected, your settings in Term Category List , Academic Statistics Period List , or Term List apply to all institutions. |
In most cases, this would be a summer or intersession term, so most institutions will use term category. You can apply these settings to all institutions and careers defined in Campus Solutions (CS) or to specific institutions and careers.
Term Category List
When you select the Term Category option, the consolidated statistics process treats all terms with the specified categories as optional. You can limit the list by institution and academic career.

| Create List | When select, this option enables the Academic Career List and you must select a career. Optional applies to all terms with the specified term category for careers added to the list. |
Academic Statistics Period List
When you select the Statistics Period option, you define your optional terms by association with an academic statistics period, regardless of the term category used in the term definition. When you choose this option, the consolidated statistics process treats all terms encompassed by the specified statistics periods as optional. You can filter the list by institution and academic career.

When selected, consolidated statistics process will treat the selected statistics period as optional for all institution career combinations (if All Institutions is selected) or for all careers for the selected institution. This option allows users to cover situations where a statistics period data might have been created for careers that weren't included in the statistics period definition, but manually added on the run control. |
| Create List | When selected, the Academic Career List grid is enabled. |
Term List
When you select the Term option, the consolidated statistics process treats any term identified, or a set of terms filtered by institution and/or career, as optional. When you use this option to identify optional terms, the terms identified are always treated as optional regardless of the term category in the term definition or the statistics period with which they are associated.
