Full and Incremental Migration

Siebel Migration provides two varieties of migration, Full and Incremental, often abbreviated as "FRR" and "IRR" respectively, where "RR" represents "Runtime Repository".

  • Full Migration is used to initialize a downstream environment so that it contains a Repository that exactly matches some specific version of an Integration Workspace (including MAIN).
  • Incremental Migration is used to apply any changes that have occurred in that source IWS (or MAIN) since Full Migration.

Full Migration is required only in these following situations:

  • Immediately after upgrading from a version of Siebel CRM previous to Innovation Pack 2017. It is not required when applying a Monthly Update or the RepositoryUpdate utility.
  • When the source IWS changes. This typically happens when developing a new, internal release and you wish to see a Test environment. This does not apply to Production, which should always be mapped to MAIN and you can always use Incremental Migration.
  • After performing a Full Publish operation database in Development, which is not recommended except in the case where you add a new Repository language. For more information on Full Publish, please refer to Using Siebel Tools.

Incremental Migration should be used in all other cases.
