About Oracle Base Database Cloud@Customer

Oracle Base Database Cloud@Customer provides a hybrid cloud service that enables customers to run Oracle AI Database in their own data centers. The service enables customers to run Oracle AI Database workloads locally while using Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) to provision, manage, and automate resources through the same cloud operating model used in OCI.

Oracle Base Database Cloud@Customer supports enterprise workloads and applications that have requirements for reliability, security, compliance, data residency, and proximity to enterprise data.

The service runs on Oracle Data Infrastructure Cloud@Customer deployed at the customer’s data center. Oracle manages the underlying infrastructure, while customers manage their database environments through the OCI Console and APIs.

The service includes the converged capabilities of Oracle AI Database for multiple data types and workloads, including AI features such as AI Vector Search and retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) close to enterprise data.

Oracle Data Infrastructure Cloud@Customer provides Oracle-managed cloud infrastructure in the customer’s data center. It uses a hybrid cloud model that combines local data residency and workload proximity with Oracle-managed infrastructure and Oracle Cloud automation.

Oracle Data Infrastructure Cloud@Customer provides the foundation for running databases and applications close to enterprise data, users, and business operations, while helping customers support data residency requirements.

Base Database Virtual Machine Clusters

Base Database Virtual Machine Clusters (VM Clusters) provide the environment for Oracle AI Database deployments on Oracle Data Infrastructure Cloud@Customer. They enable customers to run Oracle AI Database in virtual machines while provisioning and managing database resources through the OCI control plane.

VM Clusters support Oracle AI Database workloads for OLTP, analytics, and AI features, along with supported Oracle AI Database options, such as Oracle Real Application Clusters (Oracle RAC). Native database capabilities, such as AI Vector Search, support retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) workloads that use enterprise data while keeping sensitive and regulated information on premises.

Application Virtual Machines

Application Virtual Machines (Application VMs) provide customer-managed virtual machines for application workloads that need to run close to Oracle AI Database services and enterprise data within the customer’s data center.

Customers use Application VMs to consolidate application and database-connected workloads on Oracle-managed infrastructure deployed at their data center. Application VMs provide an isolated virtualized environment for hosting applications and support efficient resource utilization and operational consistency.

Application VMs are useful for application workloads and AI-enabled application components that require low-latency access to Oracle AI Database services and enterprise data. They enable hybrid application architectures, and support security, compliance, and data residency requirements.

This documentation is intended for Oracle AI Database administrators and assumes familiarity with Oracle AI Database concepts and administration tools.
