Oracle Data Infrastructure Cloud@Customer Architecture Overview

Oracle Data Infrastructure Cloud@Customer provides Base Database VM Clusters and Application VMs on Oracle-owned and managed infrastructure located in the customer’s data center.

Oracle Data Infrastructure Cloud@Customer hosts one or more VM Clusters that run Oracle AI Databases. The same Data Infrastructure also hosts Application VMs for customer-managed application workloads. Control Plane Proxy Services (CPS) VMs provide secure connectivity to an OCI region for cloud automation and administration.

VM Clusters and Application VMs connect through customer-configured client and backup networks. Oracle AI Databases are accessed through standard Oracle AI Database connection methods, such as Oracle Net. VM Clusters and Application VMs are accessed through standard Oracle Linux management methods, such as Secure Shell (SSH).

Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) provides the OCI Console, command-line interface (CLI), and REST APIs for managing Oracle Data Infrastructure Cloud@Customer. Service management API calls from the OCI tenancy are routed through the Oracle service tenancy to the Oracle-managed administrative virtual cloud network (VCN). An outgoing, persistent, secure automation tunnel connects the CPS VMs in the customer’s data center to the Oracle-managed administrative VCN in the OCI region. This tunnel delivers cloud automation commands to VM Clusters and Application VMs. Oracle Cloud Operations securely manages the Data Infrastructure through Oracle-managed administrative channels over HTTPS and SSH.

Oracle Data Infrastructure Cloud@Customer hosts one or more VM Clusters for database workloads and Application VMs for application workloads in the customer data center. The Data Infrastructure also includes Control Plane Proxy Services (CPS) VMs that connect to an Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) region for cloud automation and administration.

The customer data center connects to the OCI region to access Oracle Base Database Cloud@Customer service endpoints, Object Storage, OCI Telemetry Monitoring, Identity service, and Logging service.

The customer-premises equipment (CPE) connects to a switch or router that directs traffic to and from the CPS VMs, Network Time Protocol (NTP) server, and Domain Name System (DNS) server.

Client applications and administrators connect to VM Clusters, databases, and Application VMs through private client and backup subnets. A switch or router in the customer data center provides access to these subnets, which the customer creates and manages.
