Configure Automatic Backups for a Database
This topic provides the details and procedure to configure automatic backups for a database.
Procedure
Perform the following steps in the Console.

On the Data Infrastructures list page, select the Data Infrastructure that you want to work with. If you need help finding the list page or the Data Infrastructure, see List Data Infrastructures.
- On the Data Infrastructure details page, select the VM Cluster tab to view the list of all VM Clusters.
- On the VM Clusters tab, select the VM Cluster that you want to work with.

On the VM Cluster details page, select the Databases tab to view the list of all databases.

On the Databases tab, select the Database that you want to work with.

On the Database details page, from the Actions menu, select Configure automatic backups.
- In the Configure automatic backups panel, provide the following details.
Your current backup configuration determines the changes that you can make in the Configure Automatic Backups panel.
After you select a backup destination, you cannot change it later.
If automatic backups are not configured, you can configure the following settings:

Enable automatic backups: Select this toggle to enable or disable automatic backups.

Backup Destination Type: Select one of the following backup destination types:

Recovery Appliance: Stores backups in a previously configured Recovery Appliance backup destination.
If you select this option, you must also:
- Select a Recovery Appliance backup destination.
- Select a Virtual Private Catalog (VPC) user from the list.
- Enter the password for the VPC user.

Network Storage (NFS): Stores backups in a previously configured NFS backup destination.
If you select this option, you must also select an NFS backup destination from the list.

Backup Retention Period: Select the retention period for automatic backups.
- For Recovery Appliance backup destinations, the retention policy configured on the appliance determines the retention period.
- For NFS backup destinations, you can select one of the following retention periods: 7, 14, 30, 45, or 60 days. The default retention period is 30 days.
If automatic backups are already configured, you can make the following changes:
- For Recovery Appliance backup destinations, you can update the password for the Virtual Private Catalog (VPC) user.
- For NFS backup destinations, you can update the backup retention period.
- Enable or disable automatic backups.
Select Save.
