Service Resources
Oracle Base Database Cloud@Customer provides Oracle AI Database resources that run on Oracle Data Infrastructure Cloud@Customer deployed in the customer’s data center. Oracle Data Infrastructure Cloud@Customer provides the underlying infrastructure and networking required to host database and application workloads.
Resources follow a dependency-based hierarchy. You create a Data Infrastructure resource first, followed by a VM Network. After the infrastructure is configured, you can create Base Database VMs (VM Clusters) that use the VM Network for connectivity. Within each VM Cluster, you create Database Homes, Databases, and Pluggable Databases. You can also create Application VMs on the Data Infrastructure for customer-managed application workloads that require proximity to Oracle AI Database resources.
Data Infrastructure
The Data Infrastructure resource is the top-level Oracle Data Infrastructure Cloud@Customer resource that represents the Oracle-managed infrastructure deployed in the data center. It includes the infrastructure hardware and network configuration that enable communication with Oracle Cloud.
VM Network
The VM Network defines how VMs connect to and are accessed within the customer’s network. It defines the network configuration for VM Clusters and Application VMs, including IP addresses, host names, DNS settings, NTP settings, and associated network interfaces.
Base Database VM
The Base Database VM (VM Cluster) provides the environment for Oracle AI Database deployments. The VM Cluster consists of one or two VMs. A VM Cluster supports the deployment of single-instance Oracle AI Database and one-node or two-node Oracle Real Application Clusters (Oracle RAC).
Database Home
The Database Home is an Oracle AI Database software installation that contains the binaries and configuration files required to run databases. The Database Home provides an isolated environment for managing Oracle AI Database software versions and updates independently of the databases that use them.
Database
The Database is an Oracle AI Database that runs in a Database Home on a VM Cluster. It is a container database (CDB) and can contain one or more Pluggable Databases (PDBs). Each VM Cluster can contain multiple Database Homes, and each Database Home can contain multiple databases, subject to available capacity.
Pluggable Database
The Pluggable Database (PDB) is a logical database that resides within a container database (CDB). Each PDB provides an isolated environment for applications while sharing the database instances, background processes, and system resources of the CDB.
Application VM
The Application VM is a customer-managed virtual machine used to run applications of the customer’s choice on Oracle Data Infrastructure Cloud@Customer. It provides an isolated environment for application workloads that require proximity to databases running on the same infrastructure.
Oracle performs the initial installation of the Linux operating system. The customer is responsible for ongoing operating system administration, maintenance, and patching, and for installing, configuring, maintaining, and supporting all applications and software running on the Application VM.
