About Software Images
Software Images are resources that you create before provisioning or updating a Data Infrastructure, Database Home, database, or Grid Infrastructure.
There are two types of Software Image resources:
-
Grid Infrastructure Software Image: Contains Oracle Grid Infrastructure software used to update Grid Infrastructure. These images can be Oracle-published software releases or custom Software Images that include the required Grid Infrastructure release updates (GI RUs) and additional one-off (interim) updates.
-
Database Software Image: Contains Oracle AI Database software used to provision and update databases and Database Homes. These images can be Oracle-published software releases or custom Software Images that include the required Database Release Updates (DB RUs) and additional one-off (interim) updates.
There is no limit to the number of Software Images that you can create in your tenancy. You can create Software Images using any Oracle AI Database or Oracle Grid Infrastructure version and update that is supported in OCI.
Software Images are automatically stored in Oracle-managed Object Storage and can be viewed and managed in the Console.
Software Images incur Object Storage usage charges.
