Scale a VM Cluster
This topic provides the details and procedure to scale a VM Cluster.
Before you begin, review the following:
- You can scale up or down the ECPUs, memory, data storage, and Recovery Area storage.
- You can scale up local file system size (
/u01). - You can scale multiple resources at the same time or scale individual resources separately.
- When you scale the memory, the associated compute nodes restart in a rolling manner, one compute node at a time, to minimize the impact on the VM Cluster.
- Billing continues while a VM Cluster is stopped. To stop compute billing, reduce the ECPU allocation to zero.
Procedure
Perform the following steps in the Console.

On the Data Infrastructures list page, select the Data Infrastructure that you want to work with. If you need help finding the list page or the Data Infrastructure, see List Data Infrastructures.

On the Data Infrastructure details page, select the VM Clusters tab to view the list of all VM Clusters.

On the VM Clusters tab, select the VM Cluster that you want to work with.

On the VM Cluster details page, select Scale VM Resources.

In the Scale VM Cluster panel, provide the following details.

VM count: Displays the number of VMs in the VM Cluster. A VM Cluster can contain one or two VMs.

ECPUs: Enter the number of ECPUs for each VM. The minimum is 4 ECPUs per VM and the maximum is 240 ECPUs per VM. For Enterprise Edition Extreme Performance, the minimum is 8 ECPUs per VM. For Standard Edition, the maximum is 32 ECPUs per VM. The actual maximum available for allocation depends on the capacity currently allocated to other VM Clusters and Application VMs.

Total ECPUs across VM Cluster: Displays the total ECPUs that will be allocated to this VM Cluster. This is the total number of ECPUs allocated across all VMs in the VM Cluster.

Memory per VM (GB): Enter the memory allocation for each VM. The minimum is 11 GB per VM. For Enterprise Edition Extreme Performance, the minimum is 16 GB per VM. The maximum available for allocation depends on the capacity currently allocated to other VM Clusters and Application VMs.

Requested memory for the VM cluster (GB): Review the total requested memory across the VM Cluster.

Data Storage (GB): Enter the data storage allocation. The minimum allocation is 256 GB, and the maximum depends on the available allocation. When you reduce the allocation, specify a value that is not less than the space currently used in the DATA disk group.

Recovery Area Storage (GB): Enter the Recovery Area storage allocation. The minimum allocation is 64 GB, and the maximum depends on the available allocation. When you reduce the allocation, specify a value that is not less than the space currently used in the RECO disk group.

/u01 (GB): Enter the local file system size. Minimum of 100 GB and maximum based on the available allocation.

Select Update.
