Application Resilience
Single Region Deployment
- Operational Database needs to be provisioned ahead of time. If the database is configured in another VCN, add VCN local peering to connect to the operational database
- The database is typically configured in a private subnet
- Admin Servers and Managed Servers can be configured either in a public subnet or a private subnet
- WebLogic Server in public subnet: it has a public IP and is accessible directly from the internet through Internet Gateway
- WebLogic Server in private subnet: it’s recommended to add Bastion Host to access WLS from the internet
- If more than one managed server: it’s recommended to add Load Balancer(s)
- Load Balancers can be configured in a Public Subnet or in a Private Subnet. When Load Balancers are in a public subnet, the Bastion Host is not required
Multi Region Deployment
- All Oracle apps achieve disaster recovery in the same manner: by mirroring the reference architecture from one region to another
- Create disaster recovery setups by deploying WebLogic Server in two different regions, linking the networks together through remote private peering and using rsync or Oracle SiteGuard to mirror the site across regions
- SiteGuard is licensed as a part of WebLogic Server Management Pack EE
- Use DNS to automatically direct traffic is to a different endpoint as soon as service fails to respond
- The use of Regional Subnets is recommended
- Customers interested in deploying in multi-AD regions (London, Frankfurt) have the option of DR across ADs within a single region, however this is not recommended due to the manual nature of doing DR across multiple ADs
