Set Up an Oracle Cloud Storage Bucket for Snapshots

If you want to store your Oracle Analytics Cloud snapshots on Oracle Cloud, you (or your administrator) must set up a storage bucket for the snapshot, decide how you want Oracle Analytics Cloud to connect to the storage bucket, and obtain relevant connection information from Oracle Cloud Infrastructure Console.

You can connect Oracle Analytics Cloud to your snapshot storage bucket in two ways:
  • OCI resource connection - Create a connection to your Oracle Cloud tenancy once, then reuse the connection each time you export a snapshot. If you plan to export snapshots on a regular basis, Oracle recommends you set up a reusable connection to save time.

  • API signing key file - Manually enter connection details and a private API signing key each time you export a snapshot.

  1. In Oracle Cloud Infrastructure Console, create a user in IAM with authorization to create and connect to the bucket. See Adding Users.

You can skip this step if the user exists.

  2. Create a storage bucket for snapshots. See Create a Bucket.

You can skip this step if the bucket exists.

The user must have read-write access to the storage bucket. Specifically, the user must have the following permissions on the storage bucket where the snapshots are stored:

    • OBJECT_CREATE
    • OBJECT_OVERWRITE
  3. If you plan to access the bucket using a reusable OCI resource connection, obtain the region, tenancy OCID, and user OCID. See Where to Get the Tenancy's OCID and User's OCID.
    1. Click the Profile icon, click Tenancy <name>, then copy and record the tenancy OCID.
    2. Click the Profile icon, click User Settings, then copy and record the user OCID.
    3. Next to the Profile icon, obtain and record the geographical region displayed. For example, Ashburn.

When you create the OCI resource connection in Oracle Analytics Cloud, you'll be asked to provide this information. See Create a Connection to Your Oracle Cloud Infrastructure Tenancy.

    Connect Using: API Key

    Tenancy OCID: <OCID>

    Default Region: <geographical region>

    User OCID: <OCID>

  4. If you plan to access the bucket using an API signing key pair, generate the key file and make a note of the following information in the configuration file preview snippet. See How to Generate an API Signing Key.
    • user - OCID of the user for whom the key pair is being added.
    • fingerprint - Fingerprint of the key that was just added.
    • tenancy - Your tenancy's OCID.
    • region - Currently selected region in the Console.
    • key_file- Path to the private key file you downloaded. You must update this value to the path on your file system where you saved the private key file.

When you export snapshots from Oracle Analytics Cloud to Oracle Cloud storage (or import a snapshot stored on Oracle Cloud) you'll be asked to provide this information.

    OCI User ID: user

    Key Fingerprint: fingerprint

    Private Key: key_file

    OCI Tenancy ID: tenancy

    OCI Region: region
