Enable Automatic Creation of Alternate Names on Presentation Objects

Enable the Automatically create alternate names on rename user preference to allow Semantic Modeler to automatically add a presentation object's previous name as an alternate name.

By default this user preference is disabled.

This user preference applies to all presentation layer object types: subject areas, presentation tables, presentation columns, presentation hierarchies, and presentation hierarchy levels. After you modify an object's name or when a presentation column's corresponding logical column is updated, Semantic Modeler adds the object's previous name to the Alternate Names field.

Use alternate names to prevent breaking queries that include the object's previous names. You can also manually add or delete alternate names. See About Alternate Names for Presentation Objects.

1. On your home page, click Navigator and then click Semantic Models.
2. In the Semantic Models page, click a semantic model to open it.
3. Click Page Menu and then click Preferences.
4. In the Users Preferences dialog, scroll to Presentation Layer and click Automatically create alternate names on rename to enable it.
5. Click Apply.
