Create a Data Set Using a Visualized Data Set

You can create data sets using the data sets created after you visualize data.

You can upload data from a variety of sources (for example, spreadsheets, CSV files, Fusion Applications, and many databases) to your system, and explore your data to find correlations, discover patterns, and see trends.

After you analyze a large set of data and discover important trends in your data, you can capture this information in data sets, and use these visualized data sets to create pixel-perfect reports, publish reports (online or to multiple destinations), schedule reports, and burst reports.

To create a data set by using a visualized data set:

  1. On the component pane of the data model editor, select Data Set and select DV Data.
The Data Sets tab lists all the data sets you visualized.
  2. In the Data Sets tab, select the data set you want to use for pixel-perfect reporting.
  3. Click Next.
  4. Enter a name for the data set.
  5. If you want to configure parameters, perform these steps for each parameter:
    1. Click Add Parameter.
    2. Select a column from the Column Name list.
    3. If you want to change the name of the parameter, edit the name in the Parameter field.
  6. Click Finish.
After you import a visualized data set, if you change the structure of the visualized data set, you must manually edit and refresh the visualized data set. You can’t import the expressions and user-calculated elements from a visualized data set to a Publisher data model and you can’t link between data sets.

Create a Data Set Using a Visualized Data Flow

You can use visualized data flows to create data sets.

You can't use these types of data flows to create data sets:
  • Data flows created with the Save Model option.
  • Data flows with branched data sets.

To create a data set using visualized data flows:

  1. Select Data Sets, click New Data Set in the Diagram tab, and then select DV Data.
  2. In the Data Flows tab, select a data flow you want to use and click Next.
  3. Enter a name for the data set.
  4. If you want to configure parameters, perform these steps for each parameter:
    1. Click Add Parameter.
    2. Select a column from the Column Name list.
    3. If you want to change the name of the parameter, edit the name in the Parameter field.
  5. Click Finish.
