This 10-minute tutorial shows you how to create users and provision access in Oracle Analytics Cloud - Essbase.

Background

In this tutorial, you learn how to import users, assign them to a group, and provision application access for the group.

Complete all of the steps of this tutorial using the Essbase web interface.

This tutorial is relevant in LDAP Identity Management Mode, but not in Oracle Identity Cloud Service (IDCS).

What Do You Need?

  • Access to Essbase as a service administrator
  • A cube, Efficient.UserFilters, that you (or a power user) previously built from the application workbook Efficient_Filters.xlsx, available in the Technical section of the Gallery (in the Files section)
  • The following files, downloaded to your computer:


section 1Import a Group

The file you downloaded, groups.csv, contains data for an exported group to categorize users. Use this file to import the group.

  1. Sign in to the Essbase web interface as a service administrator.
  2. Click Security Security, and click Groups.
  3. Click Import.
  4. In the File Upload dialog box, click Drag or select a file, locate groups.csv on your computer, and click OK.
  5. In the Download Import Logs dialog box, click Cancel.
  6. Verify that FilterGroup appears in the list of groups.


section 2Import Users

The file you downloaded, users.csv, contains data for an exported set of 22 users. Use this file to import the users in bulk to Essbase.

  1. In the Essbase web interface, click Security Security, and click Users.
  2. Click Import, and in the File Upload dialog box, click Drag or select a file. Locate users.csv on your computer, and click OK.
  3. In the Download Import Logs dialog box, click Cancel.
  4. Verify that User1-User22 appear in the list of user IDs.

section 3Add Users to the Group

In this section, you add two users to the group you created.

  1. In the Essbase web interface, click Security Security, and click Users.
  2. In the row for User1, click Actions Actions menu, and click Edit.
  3. Click in the Groups box, and select FilterGroup.
  4. Click Save.
  5. Repeat the above steps for User8.


section 4Set Up Application Access

In this section, you provision access to the Efficient application using a group.

  1. In the Essbase web interface, click Applications Applications.
  2. In the row for the Efficient application, click Actions Actions menu, and click Inspect.
  3. Click the Permissions tab, and click Add Add to add provisioning.
  4. Scroll to FilterGroup, and click Add Add.
  5. Click the button under Database Update to give every user in FilterGroup permission to update cubes in the application.

  6. Click Close.
