Phased Upgrade for Process

If you have active Process workloads and need additional time to complete the transition to Oracle Integration 3, you can now complete the transition in a phased manner.

With this approach, you can continue to use Process in Oracle Integration Generation 2 until December 31, 2026. Process in Oracle Integration Generation 2 will be decommissioned on December 31, 2026.

This transition involves two phases:
  • Phase 1: Upgrade integrations and Visual Builder applications to Oracle Integration 3.
  • Phase 2: Migrate Process workloads to Oracle Integration 3.

Summary of Phase 1 Steps

Here's a summary of the steps for phase 1.

Before the Upgrade
  • Review the documentation.
  • Review and complete the pre-upgrade steps.
  • Review the schedule and plan for the upgrade.
During the Upgrade
  • Integrations and Visual Builder applications will be upgraded to Oracle Integration 3.
  • Process will remain on Oracle Integration Generation 2.
    • Process will not be enabled on Oracle Integration 3 and no process design-time migration will occur.
  • Connectivity between integrations/Visual Builder applications (running on Oracle Integration 3) and Process (on Oracle Integration Generation 2) will continue to work after the upgrade provided that you have completed the required prerequisites. Also, there are some limitations. See Limitations.
  • Oracle Integration 3 will retain the existing host name. A new host name will be assigned to Oracle Integration Generation 2. Process traffic going through the current host name will be forwarded to PCS on Oracle Integration Generation 2.
After the Upgrade
  • You will be able to access your existing Oracle Integration Generation 2 environment in addition to your newly created Oracle Integration 3 instance.
  • Business users' access to Process tasks and Process tracking will be unaffected. Users can use the same URL to access the service.
  • You will not be charged for your Oracle Integration Generation 2 instance after the upgrade. The Oracle Integration Generation 2 instance will no longer be available in the Oracle Cloud Infrastructure Console.
  • You should perform a sanity test to validate connectivity after upgrade.

Summary of Phase 2 Steps

Here's a summary of the steps for phase 2.

Enable Process
  • After Phase 1 is complete, enable Process in the upgraded Oracle Integration 3 instance.
Migrate Process Applications
  • Export Process applications from Oracle Integration Generation 2 and import them into Process on Oracle Integration 3.
  • Refactor Process applications to resolve validation issues. Activate the applications on Oracle Integration 3 Process.
  • Update clients that call Process applications.
    • Integrations calling Process
    • Integrations called by Process
    • Visual Builder applications
    • Non-Oracle-Integration clients
Switch Production to Oracle Integration 3
  • Promote Process applications to production.
  • Perform switchover to Oracle Integration 3 Process for new process transactions.
  • Enter coexistence period.
Exit Oracle Integration Generation 2
  • Exit coexistence period before December 31, 2026.
  • Oracle Integration Generation 2 will be decommissioned by Oracle.
