Patching Updates to Your Oracle Integration 3 Instance
Oracle performs two kinds of patching updates for Oracle Integration: security updates and functional updates, with no downtime.
Updates Are Mandatory
Oracle completes the patching updates for you. You can't skip or reschedule an update. Updates are mandatory, and Oracle can't accommodate individual schedules.
No Downtime and Existing Flows Continue to Run
Your service instance won't experience downtime during the update.
During an update existing flows continue to run. If you have flows that run longer than five minutes, you may see an increase in runtime of up to five additional minutes.
Timing of Updates
- Security updates are applied as necessary to ensure platform protection.
- Functional updates occur every two months.
Test Updates on Development Before They're Applied to Production
When you create an Oracle Integration instance, you specify the shape—Development or Production. Both instance shapes have the same service level agreements (SLAs); the only difference is the timing of functional updates. Development instances are updated approximately four weeks before Production instances. This allows you to test the update on your Development instance before the update is applied to your Production instance.
Note:
- Not all regions allow Development shapes. See Availability.
- You can't change the shape after you create the instance. However, you can move data to another instance using the export and import features. See Clone the Design-Time Metadata of an Entire Service Instance in Using Integrations in Oracle Integration 3.
- In Oracle Integration Generation 2, you chose your update window using tags.
Update Notifications
- Security updates: Oracle does not send notifications for security updates.
- Functional updates: Oracle sends two notifications per instance.
- 4-6 weeks before the update: Oracle provides a 7-day window during which the update will be applied to your instance.
- 1-2 weeks before the update: Oracle sends a follow-up notification specifying a window of less than 24 hours during which the update will be applied.
Functional update notifications are available in the following ways:
- Email: The default tenancy administrator receives the notification by email.
- Oracle Cloud Console: Service administrators can see the notification in the Oracle Cloud Console by clicking Announcements
in the banner.
- Oracle Integration web application: If a service administrator enabled announcements for your Oracle Integration instance, users can see the notification in Oracle Integration by clicking Announcements
in the banner.
For more information on notifications, including how to update who receives notifications, see Enable Announcements.
New Feature Availability in Your Instance
You see the changes for a release only after your Oracle Integration instance has been updated to the latest release and the feature is available in the realm where your instance is located. To identify the release version of your instance, select the About option in your Oracle Integration 3 instance. See Why Don't I See the Latest Changes? in What's New for Oracle Integration 3.
New features are described in the documentation when functional updates occur. See About This Guide in What's New for Oracle Integration 3.
