Feature Description

Autonomous Data Warehouse supports Dedicated Exadata Infrastructure deployments

When you create an Autonomous Data Warehouse deployment, you can now choose between the Serverless and dedicated deployment options.

For information about creating, managing, and using dedicated Autonomous Data Warehouse deployments, see User's Guide to Oracle Autonomous Data Warehouse Dedicated Deployments.

Clone a database

You can now create a new Autonomous Database by cloning an existing one, choosing to clone either the full database or only the database metadata.

Monitor databases using Performance Hub

The Oracle Cloud Infrastructure console now includes Performance Hub for Autonomous Databases, which you can use to view real-time and historical performance data.

Use network security groups to control network access

You can now use network security groups in addition to or instead of security lists to control network access to the VCN and subnets hosting your Autonomous Database on Dedicated Exadata Infrastructure deployments.

Feature Description

Use Events and Notifications to watch resource activity

Autonomous Database on Dedicated Exadata Infrastructure now generates and sends events to the Event service when it performs operations on resources. Using the Events service, you can create rules to capture these events and perform actions such as sending you emails using the Notifications service.

Use Enterprise Manager to manage databases

You can now use Oracle Enterprise Manager to discover and manage dedicated Autonomous Transaction Processing databases, provided you are using, at a minimum, Enterprise Manager version 13.3 with EM DB Plugin Bundle Patch 13.3.2.0.190731.

A new deployment choice for Autonomous Transaction Processing, called Dedicated Deployment, is now available.

Now you have two deployment choices, Serverless and Dedicated.

  • Serverless — a simple and elastic deployment choice. Oracle autonomously operates all aspects of the database life cycle from database placement to backup and updates.

  • Dedicated — a private cloud in public cloud deployment choice. A completely dedicated compute, storage, network and database service for only a single tenant. Dedicated deployment provides for the highest levels of security isolation and governance. The customer has customizable operational policies for autonomous operations: workload placement, workload optimization, update scheduling, availability level, over provisioning and peak usage.

    Dedicated deployment allows an organization to rethink database IT, enabling a customizable private database cloud in the public cloud. The dedicated choice makes it possible to deliver a self-service database capability that aligns with organizational structure. Different lines of business or project teams can have complete autonomy in their individual execution while the company itself gets a fleet wide simplified aggregation of overall health, availability and cost management. This separation of Fleet versus Database administration allows simple budgeting controls and resource isolation without getting in the way of the line of business execution. And a dedicated database deployment will support the entire spectrum of needs from simple apps to apps that require the highest governance, consistent performance and operational controls.
