Introduction

This 10-minute tutorial shows you how to manually create an Oracle Blockchain Platform founder instance and access the Oracle Blockchain Platform console.

Background

Oracle Blockchain Platform is a network consisting of validating nodes (peers) that update the ledger and respond to queries by executing smart contract code, also known as chaincode. Chaincode is the business logic that runs on the blockchain. External applications invoke transactions or run queries through client SDKs or REST API calls, which prompt selected peers to run the chaincode.

Oracle Blockchain Platform uses an Oracle Cloud Infrastructure virtual machine instance to deploy and run the Oracle Blockchain Platform instance. When you create your Oracle Blockchain Platform instance, all other required internal resources are created and managed for you by Oracle.

Prerequisites

  • You need an Oracle Cloud account. If you don't already have one, see How Do I Sign Up? for more information.

Task 1: Create an Oracle Blockchain Platform Instance

Complete the following steps to create a founder blockchain network using the Developer configuration. Creating your blockchain network takes approximately 15 minutes. When it's complete, an email is sent that contains information about your instance.

  1. Sign in to Oracle Cloud Infrastructure.
  2. On the Oracle Cloud Infrastructure page, search for Blockchain Platform. In the search results pane under Services, click Blockchain Platform next to Developer Services to open the Service Console.
  3. Click Create Blockchain Platform.

  4. On the Create Blockchain Platform page, enter the information for your service:
    • Compartment: Use the default compartment.
    • Display Name: obp2
    • Description: Enter an optional description, such as Oracle Blockchain Platform tutorial instance.
    • Platform Role: Select Create a new network to create a complete founder blockchain network.
    • Platform Version: Select Hyperledger Fabric v2.2.4.
    • Edition: Select Standard.

  5. Click Create. The details page for the instance is displayed.

Task 2: Confirm that Your Instance Was Created Successfully

After the instance is created, the state message of the instance changes from Creating to Created Successfully and the state of the Create Blockchain Platform work request changes from Accepted to InProgress to Succeeded. The Details page shows additional information about the instance.
