Understand Asset Management

Assets are those images and content items that can be used in websites, in publications, or in other marketing and media areas. Digital asset management is a way to group and manage all the assets that are used for one purpose, like in a website or for a particular project.

You add the assets to a repository, where publishing policies and localization policies dictate how the asset is managed.

There are several ways to make your assets easier to find. You can tag assets by adding a keyword when you upload the asset. This enables users to search for assets based on the keyword. You can also add assets to collections, grouping associated assets so users can see all the assets used in a site, used by a department, or any other grouping that fits your needs.

You can upload custom renditions of your images to suit the channel they’re published to (mobile, tablet, web, etc.).When you add an image to a repository, large, medium, small, and thumbnail renditions of the image are automatically generated by Oracle Content and Experience Cloud. You can use these renditions or create your own to suit your needs.

Content items are also assets and they can work with digital assets such as images. When you create a content item that has a media field, you can select a digital asset for that field. You can associate a content item with a collection and with any of the translation or publishing policies you’ve created.

After a content item has been created, it can be translated if the policies associated with that item allow it. For example, if you create a content item but include it in a repository that has been created with channels that don’t allow translation, you won’t be able to translate it. Visual digital assets, such as images, are by default not translatable. It’s important to plan ahead and include the correct policies with the right repositories.
