Download or Upload a Sensitive Data Model in XML Format

You can download an XML version of a sensitive data model and upload it into Oracle Data Safe, replacing an existing sensitive data model or creating a new one. Before downloading a sensitive data model, you first need to generate it as an XML file.

About Downloading and Uploading Sensitive Data Models

There are several use cases for downloading and uploading sensitive data models, for example:

  • You have multiple test databases in different regions in Oracle Cloud Infrastructure, all with the same schemas, and you want to use the same sensitive data model for them all.
  • Your test database has moved to another region in Oracle Cloud Infrastructure and you want to move the sensitive data model with it.
  • Your sensitive data model is large and complex so you prefer to manually edit the sensitive columns in a text editor instead of going through the Oracle Data Safe interface.

Generate a Sensitive Data Model

  1. Under Data Safe - Database Security, select Data discovery.
  2. Under Data Discovery, select Sensitive Data Models.
  3. (Optional) Under Applied filters, select the compartment that contains your target database. Optionally select Include child compartments to include target database in the list from child compartments.
  4. (Optional) Filter the list of results by selecting the Search and Filter field.
    1. (Optional) Select a time period using the Created filter.
    2. (Optional) Select a description using the Description filter.
    3. (Optional) Select a name using the Name filter.
    4. (Optional) Select an OCID using the OCID filter.
    5. (Optional) Select a status using the Status filter.
    6. (Optional) Select a tag using the Tag filter.
    7. (Optional) Select a target database from the Target database filter.
    8. (Optional) Select a target database group from the Target database groups filter.
    9. (Optional) Select a last updated time using the Updated filter.
  5. Select the name of your sensitive data model to view its details.
  6. Under Actions, select Generate SDM.

    Note:

    The Generate Sensitive Data Model for Download dialog box is displayed.
  7. Select Generate SDM and wait for the XML file to be generated.

    Note:

    When the XML file is generated, a message states that the XML file generation is complete. You can download it using the Download SDM button.
  8. Select Close.

Download a Sensitive Data Model

After you generate an XML version of your sensitive data model, you can download it to your local computer.

  1. Under Data Safe - Database Security, select Data discovery.
  2. Under Data Discovery, select Sensitive Data Models.
  3. (Optional) Under Applied filters, select the compartment that contains your target database. Optionally select Include child compartments to include target database in the list from child compartments.
  4. (Optional) Filter the list of results by selecting the Search and Filter field.
    1. (Optional) Select a time period using the Created filter.
    2. (Optional) Select a description using the Description filter.
    3. (Optional) Select a name using the Name filter.
    4. (Optional) Select an OCID using the OCID filter.
    5. (Optional) Select a status using the Status filter.
    6. (Optional) Select a tag using the Tag filter.
    7. (Optional) Select a target database from the Target database filter.
    8. (Optional) Select a target database group from the Target database groups filter.
    9. (Optional) Select a last updated time using the Updated filter.
  5. Select the name of your sensitive data model to view its details.
  6. Under Actions, select Download SDM.

    Note:

    In some browsers, the file is directly downloaded to the local download folder. In others, the Download Sensitive Data Model dialog box is displayed and you must complete the following steps:
    1. Select Download SDM.

      Note:

      The Opening SDM-download.xml dialog box is displayed.
    2. Enter the name of the file and browse to the location where you want to save the file.
    3. Select Save.

Upload a Sensitive Data Model

You can upload a sensitive data model in XML format into Oracle Data Safe. During the import, you can choose to update an existing sensitive data model or create a new one. When creating a new one, you need to select the target database to which the sensitive data model applies.

  1. Under Data Safe - Database Security, select Data discovery.
  2. Under Data discovery, select Sensitive data models.
  3. Under Actions, select Upload sensitive data model.

    Note:

    The Upload Sensitive Data Model window is displayed.
  4. To update an existing sensitive data model, do the following:
    1. Leave the Update an existing sensitive data model tile selected.
    2. Select the sensitive data model that you want to replace. If needed, click Change Compartment and select a different compartment.
    3. Select your sensitive data model. There are two ways to do this. The first way is to drag your sensitive data model file (XML file) onto the Upload Sensitive Data Model File area. The second way is to click select one, browse to and select your XML file in the File Upload dialog box, and then click Open.
    4. Select Upload sensitive data model.
  5. To create a new sensitive data model, do the following:
    1. Select the Create a new sensitive data model tile.
    2. Enter a name for your new sensitive data model.
    3. Select the compartment in which you want to store your sensitive data model.
    4. (Optional) Enter a description for your sensitive data model.
    5. Select the target database to which your sensitive data model applies.
    6. Add your sensitive data model. There are two ways to do this. The first way is to drag your sensitive data model file (XML file) onto the Upload Sensitive Data Model File area. The second way is to click select one, browse to and select your XML file in the File Upload dialog box, and then click Open.
    7. (Optional) To add tags, select Show Advanced Options, and create tags.
    8. Select Upload sensitive data model.
