Adding Nodes

Add nodes (shards) to scale out your Globally Distributed Database.

You can add nodes when:

• You have completed Creating a Globally Distributed Exadata Database on Exascale Infrastructure Resource, but have not yet completed Deploying Globally Distributed Exadata Database on Exascale Infrastructure.

• You have completed Deploying Globally Distributed Exadata Database on Exascale Infrastructure and want to scale up your Globally Distributed Exadata Database on Exascale Infrastructure (Distributed ExaDB-XS) with more nodes.

To add nodes:

1. On the Globally Distributed Exadata Database on Exascale Infrastructure list page select a Distributed ExaDB-XS.

2. On the details page, under Nodes, select Add node.

3. On the Add node pane configure the new node.

   • Node count: enter the number of nodes you want to add.

     You can add up to 10 nodes in each set to deploy, and then add more after deployment if needed.

   • Node: Shows the display name for each node or data space in the configuration. Once you select a region the name is populated.

   • Region: Select the region where you would like to host the node.

   • VM cluster: Select a cluster available in the selected region.

   Note: It is recommended that you use one VM cluster per database (node or catalog).

4. In Create administrator credentials, set the password for the node database ADMIN user.

5. Select the Encryption key details for the new nodes.

   Select the compartment, vault, and master encryption key that were configured in Configure Security Resources.

6. Select Validate to run checks to make sure the new nodes are valid.

7. After any validation errors are addressed and validation is successful, select Add nodes to deploy the new nodes.

   Note: There is a time limit for deploying new nodes.

   • When scaling up a deployed Distributed ExaDB-XS, you must complete Deploying Globally Distributed Exadata Database on Exascale Infrastructure within 7 days of completing this procedure or you will get an error and must terminate the new node resources and start again.

   • When adding nodes to an undeployed Distributed ExaDB-XS, you have 7 days from completing Creating a Globally Distributed Exadata Database on Exascale Infrastructure Resource to add any nodes and complete Deploying Globally Distributed Exadata Database on Exascale Infrastructure.
