Convo

Before You Begin

Introduction

This document describes how to configure Oracle Identity Cloud Service to provide Single Sign-On (SSO) for Convo using SAML.

About Convo

Convo is a platform for communications between large teams in organizations. It has an easy newsfeed format and allows its users to chat, upload files, highlight, and comment to have fast, focused, and secure discussions.

After integrating Convo with Oracle Identity Cloud Service:

  • Users can access Convo using their Oracle Identity Cloud Service login credentials.
  • Users can start Convo using the Oracle Identity Cloud Service My Apps console.
  • Admins can assign and revoke user access to the Convo app using the Oracle Identity Cloud Service administration console.

What Do You Need?

  • An Oracle Identity Cloud Service account with authorization rights to manage apps and users (Identity Domain Administrator or Application Administrator).
  • A Convo account with authorization rights to configure federated authentication.
  • Make sure that the email ID of each user in Convo matches the primary email ID of the Oracle Identity Cloud Service account.

Configuring the Convo App in Oracle Identity Cloud Service

Use this section to register and activate the Convo app, and then assign users to the app.

Prerequisite Steps

An account ID is required before you can register and activate the Convo app. You obtain that account ID from Convo.

  1. Access Convo as an administrator using the URL: https://app.convo.com. The Convo home page appears.

  2. In the upper-left corner of the navigation menu, click the company name drop-down list, and then select Network Settings. The Convo account ID appears in the URL: https://app.convo.com/#/v1/<Account_ID>/.

Image img1.png displays the address bar of the Convo home page with account ID highlighted in the URL.

Registering and Activating the Convo App

  1. Access the Oracle Identity Cloud Service administration console, select Applications, and then click Add.

  2. Click App Catalog.

  3. Search for Convo, and then click Add.

  4. In the App Details section, enter your Convo Account ID, and then click Next.

Note: This is the account ID that you obtained while performing the steps in the "Prerequisite Steps" section.

  5. Click Download Identity Provider Metadata. To learn about other methods you can use to access SAML metadata, see Access SAML Metadata.

Tip: Use this file later during the Convo configuration in the "Configuring SSO for Convo" section.

  6. Click Finish. Oracle Identity Cloud Service displays a confirmation message.

  7. Click Activate, and then click Activate Application. Oracle Identity Cloud Service displays a confirmation message.

Assigning Users to the Convo App

  1. On the Convo app page in Oracle Identity Cloud Service, select Users, and then click Assign. The Assign Users window appears.

  2. Select users that you want to assign to Convo, and then click OK. Oracle Identity Cloud Service displays a confirmation message stating that the Convo app is assigned to the users that you selected.

Configuring SSO for Convo

  1. Access Convo as an administrator using the URL: https://app.convo.com. The Convo home page appears.

  2. In the upper-left corner of the navigation menu, click the company name drop-down list, and then select Network settings.

  3. From the left navigation menu, click Single sign on. The Single Sign-On (SSO) Authentication via SAML 2.0 page appears.

  4. Select Yes to enable SSO, and then choose Optional or Required.

Tip: Select Optional to allow users to sign in using either Oracle Identity Cloud Service or Convo credentials. Select Required to require users to sign in using only Oracle Identity Cloud Service credentials.

  5. In the SET UP SINGLE SIGN-ON section, use the table to update the federated authentication attributes, and then click Save Changes.

This table lists the mandatory federated authentication attributes that you must set to complete the SSO configuration.
    Attribute Value
Add your identity provider SAML 2.0 metadata xml Paste the metadata that you downloaded during Convo registration in Oracle Identity Cloud Service. See the "Registering and Activating the Convo App" section.
SAML identity location Select Identity is in the NameIdentifier element.

Verifying the Integration

Use this section to verify that SSO/SLO works when initiated from Oracle Identity Cloud Service (IdP initiated SSO/SLO) or from Convo (SP initiated SSO).

Verifying Identity Provider Initiated SSO from Oracle Identity Cloud Service

  1. Access the Oracle Identity Cloud Service My Profile console using the URL: https://<IDCS-Service-Instance>.identity.oraclecloud.com/ui/v1/myconsole.

  2. Log in using credentials for a user that is assigned to the Convo app. Oracle Identity Cloud Service displays a shortcut to Convo under My Apps.

  3. Click Convo. The Convo home page appears.

  4. In the upper-right corner, click the user drop-down list, and then confirm that the user that is logged in is the same for both Convo and Oracle Identity Cloud Service.

This confirms that SSO that is initiated from Oracle Identity Cloud Service works.

Verifying Service Provider Initiated SSO from Convo

  1. Access Convo using the URL: https://app.convo.com, and then click Sign in with your company ID (SSO).

  2. Enter your email address, and then click Continue. You are redirected to the Oracle Identity Cloud Service login page.

  3. Log in using credentials for a user that is assigned to the Convo app. The Convo home page appears.

  4. In the upper-right corner, click the user drop-down list, and then confirm that the user that is logged in is the same for both Convo and Oracle Identity Cloud Service.

This confirms that SSO that is initiated from Convo works.

Verifying Single Log-Out (SLO) from Oracle Identity Cloud Service

  1. Access Convo from the Oracle Identity Cloud Service My Profile console using the URL: https://<IDCS-Service-Instance>.identity.oraclecloud.com/ui/v1/myconsole. The Convo home page appears.

  2. In the upper-right corner, click the user drop-down list, and then click Sign Out. The Oracle Identity Cloud Service My Profile console login page appears.

  3. Confirm that the user is logged out of the Convo app.

Note: The user is logged out of both Oracle Identity Cloud Service and the Convo app when log out is initiated from Oracle Identity Cloud Service.

This confirms that SLO that is initiated from Oracle Identity Cloud Service works.

Troubleshooting

Use this section to locate solutions to common integration issues.

Known Issues

Convo displays the message, "You do not have access to this Convo network."

Cause: The email attribute sent by Oracle Identity Cloud Service during SSO doesn't match any existing user in Convo.

Solution: Ensure that the user that you assign to the Convo app has an account in both Oracle Identity Cloud Service and Convo with the same email address.

Oracle Identity Cloud Service displays the message, "You are not authorized to access the app. Contact your system administrator."

Cause 1: The SAML 2.0 integration between the Oracle Identity Cloud Service Convo app and Convo is deactivated.

Solution 1:

  • Access the Oracle Identity Cloud Service administration console, select Applications, and then select Convo.
  • In the App Details section, click Activate, and then click Activate Application. Oracle Identity Cloud Service displays a confirmation message.

Cause 2: The administrator revokes access for the user at the same time that the user tries to access the Convo app using Oracle Identity Cloud Service.

Solution 2:

  • Access the Oracle Identity Cloud Service administration console, select Applications, and then select Convo.
  • In the App Details section, select Users, and then click Assign to re-assign the user.
