RightScale

Before You Begin

Introduction

This document describes how to configure Oracle Identity Cloud Service to provide Single Sign-On (SSO) for RightScale using SAML.

About RightScale

RightScale is a cloud computing management solution that manages cloud infrastructure across numerous IaaS providers at one time.

After integrating RightScale with Oracle Identity Cloud Service:

  • Users can access RightScale using their Oracle Identity Cloud Service login credentials.
  • Users can start RightScale using the Oracle Identity Cloud Service My Apps console.
  • Admins can assign and revoke user access to the RightScale app using the Oracle Identity Cloud Service administration console.

What Do You Need?

  • An Oracle Identity Cloud Service account with authorization rights to manage apps and users (Identity Domain Administrator or Application Administrator).
  • A RightScale account with authorization rights to configure federated authentication.
  • Make sure that the email ID of each user in RightScale matches the primary email ID of the Oracle Identity Cloud Service account.

Configuring the RightScale App in Oracle Identity Cloud Service

Use this section to register and activate the RightScale app, and then assign users to the app.

Prerequisite Steps

  1. A domain name is required before you can register and activate the RightScale app. You obtain that domain name from RightScale.

The RightScale domain name appears in the RightScale home URL: https://<Domain_Name>.rightscale.com/.

  2. Register your Identity Provider's email domain authority.

Tip: To register your IdP for your organization's domain, contact your RightScale support representative or account manager. If you don't know your RightScale support representative, please contact support@rightscale.com.

Registering and Activating the RightScale App

  1. Access the Oracle Identity Cloud Service administration console, select Applications, and then click Add.

  2. Click App Catalog.

  3. Search for RightScale, and then click Add.

  4. In the App Details section, enter your Domain Name, and then click Next.

Note: This is the domain name that you obtained while performing the steps in the "Prerequisite Steps" section.

  5. Click Download Identity Provider Metadata.

Tip: This file is used later during the RightScale configuration in the "Configuring SSO for RightScale" section.

  6. Click Download Signing Certificate.

RightScale expects the certificate file to have a line break after column 64. However, certificate downloaded from IDCS doesn't have a line break after column 64.

  7. Use Linux/Unix fold -w 64 -s Certificate_filename.pem > Folded-Cert_filename.pem command to insert line break after column 64.

Tip: Use this updated certificate file later during the RightScale configuration in the "Configuring SSO for RightScale" section.

  8. Click Finish. Oracle Identity Cloud Service displays a confirmation message.

  9. Click Activate, and then click Activate Application. Oracle Identity Cloud Service displays a confirmation message.

Assigning Users to the RightScale App

  1. On the RightScale app page in Oracle Identity Cloud Service, select Users, and then click Assign. The Assign Users window appears.

  2. Select users that you want to assign to RightScale, and then click OK. Oracle Identity Cloud Service displays a confirmation message stating that the RightScale app is assigned to the users that you selected.

Configuring SSO for RightScale

  1. Access RightScale as an administrator using the URL: https://<Domain_Name>.rightscale.com. The RightScale home page appears.

  2. Click Settings drop-down list, click Single Sign-On, and then click new.

  3. Use the table to update the federated authentication attributes, and then click save.

This table lists the mandatory federated authentication attributes that you must set to complete the SSO configuration.
    Attribute Settings
Display Name Enter a display name.
Login Method Select the Allow RightScale-initiated SSO using a discovery hint check box, and then enter your discovery hint. Enter discovery hint in lower case. Use this discovery hint later to access RightScale in the "Verifying Service Provider Initiated SSO from RightScale" section.
SAML SSO Endpoint Enter the SAML SSO Endpoint: https://<IDCS-Service-Instance>.identity.oraclecloud.com/fed/v1/idp/sso.
SAML EntityID Enter the Entity ID/Issuer URL. Use the metadata file that you downloaded earlier to obtain the Entity ID/Issuer URL. The Entity ID/Issuer URL information is located in the first line of the metadata. See the "Registering and Activating the RightScale App" section.
SAML Signing Certificate Click Browse, and then upload the certificate(.pem file) that you created while performing the steps in the "Registering and Activating the RightScale App".
  4. In the Your SAML Identity Providers section, click the edit icon under Actions.

  5. In the SAML request binding field, select POST from drop-down list, and then click save.

Verifying the Integration

Use this section to verify that SSO works when initiated from both Oracle Identity Cloud Service (IdP Initiated SSO) or from RightScale (SP Initiated SSO).

Verifying Identity Provider Initiated SSO from Oracle Identity Cloud Service

  1. Access the Oracle Identity Cloud Service My Profile console using the URL: https://<IDCS-Service-Instance>.identity.oraclecloud.com/ui/v1/myconsole.

  2. Log in using credentials for a user that is assigned to the RightScale app. Oracle Identity Cloud Service displays a shortcut to RightScale under My Apps.

  3. Click RightScale. The RightScale home page appears.

  4. Confirm that the user that is logged in is the same for both RightScale and Oracle Identity Cloud Service.

This confirms that SSO that is initiated from Oracle Identity Cloud Service works.

Verifying Service Provider Initiated SSO from RightScale

  1. Access the RightScale using the URL: https://<Domain_Name>.rightscale.com/, and then click Use single sign-on.

  2. Enter your SSO Identifier, and then click Log In. You are redirected to the Oracle Identity Cloud Service login page.

Tip: This is the SSO identifier which you have entered in discovery hint during SSO configuration. See "Configuring SSO for RightScale" section.

  3. Log in using credentials for a user that is assigned to the RightScale app. The RightScale home page appears.

  4. Confirm that the user that is logged in is the same for both RightScale and Oracle Identity Cloud Service.

This confirms that SSO that is initiated from RightScale works.

Troubleshooting

Use this section to locate solutions to common integration issues.

Known Issues

RightScale displays the message, “No Cloud Management accounts for < user email >."

Cause: The email attribute sent by Oracle Identity Cloud Service during SSO doesn't match any existing user in RightScale.

Solution: Ensure that the user that you assign to the RightScale app has an account in both Oracle Identity Cloud Service and RightScale with the same email address.

Oracle Identity Cloud Service displays the message, “You are not authorized to access the app. Contact your system administrator." or “There is a problem with your account. Please contact Support."

Cause: The SAML 2.0 integration between the Oracle Identity Cloud Service RightScale app and RightScale is deactivated.

Solution:

  • Access the Oracle Identity Cloud Service administration console, select Applications, and then select RightScale.
  • In the App Details section, click Activate, and then click Activate Application. Oracle Identity Cloud Service displays a confirmation message.
Oracle Identity Cloud Service displays the message, “You are not authorized to access the app. Contact your system administrator."

Cause: The administrator revokes access for the user at the same time that the user tries to access the RightScale app using Oracle Identity Cloud Service.

Solution:

  • Access the Oracle Identity Cloud Service administration console, select Applications, and then select RightScale.
  • In the App Details section, select Users, and then click Assign to re-assign the user.
