Description for EDI Envelope Structure

A line labeled Communications Transport Protocol covers the top of the graphic and goes down the right side where it is named Communications Envelope. The line then extends to the left where it is named Communications Transport Trailer. Within this line are two entries:

• A line labeled Functional Group Header covers the top of the graphic and goes down the right side where it is named Functional Group. The line then extends to the left where it is named Functional Group Trailer. To the left of the Functional Group Header label is a box labeled GS. To the left of the Functional Group Trailer label is a box labeled GE.
  • Interchange Control Header that covers the top of the graphic and goes down the right side where it is named Interchange Envelope. The line then extends to the left where it is named Interchange Control Trailer. To the left of the Interchange Control Header label is a box labeled ISA. To the left of the Interchange Control Trailer label is a box labeled IEA. Within this inner line are two entries:

    • An inner line labeled Transaction Set Header that covers the top of the graphic and goes down the right side. The line then extends to the left where it is named Transaction Set Trailer. To the left of the Transaction Set Header label is a box labeled ST. To the left of the Transaction Set Trailer label is a box labeled SE. Inside the lines is a box labeled Detailed Segments, for example, Benefit Enrollment.
    • An inner line labeled Transaction Set Header that covers the top of the graphic and goes down the right side. The line then extends to the left where it is named Transaction Set Trailer.
